Smart is clearly more talented. But frankly, I value steadiness in my point guard, and that's where Ennis has him beat this year.

As much as you want to ignore it, the suspension, the tirades... that all factors in when you are the captain of the ship.

But there's a reason why Self recruited Marcus Smart so hard. It's not like he couldn't see what he had starting at PG...

He's not only more talented, he's just better at basketball. I could show you all the stats that support that, but I think that's pretty obvious to anybody that's watched the two play. Ennis is very good, but Smart is just a different kind of impact player (primarily due to his exceptional D).

I don't ignore it, but a suspension doesn't factor into it from me when talking better PGs/basketball players. Maybe there's some negative intangible quality to having a guy with a short fuse as your "leader" but I tend to believe Smart's unrivaled energy level and competitiveness helped drive that team more often than not. They certainly don't make the tournament without him this year, that's for sure.

KU gets upset by lower seeds virtually every year under Self... because they rarely play higher seeds in the tourney.

Only 3 games out of 36 has KU played a higher seeded team. Those were 1 seeded UNC ('12), 2 seeded Michigan St. ('09) and 3 seeded Georgia Tech ('04). And KU was only 1 seed lower than each of those.

Despite supposedly being poor in the tournament, KU has 26 wins over that time. Only one team has more - Roy Williams\UNC with 29.

Here is the success of the teams KU lost to -

2014 - Stanford - still standing
2013 - Michigan - Championship game
2012 - Kentucky - National Champs
2011 - VCU - Final Four
2010 - Northern Iowa - Sweet 16 (f u Farok)
2009 - Michigan St - Championship Game
2008 - ya baby!!
2007 - UCLA - Final Four
2006 - Bradley - Sweet 16 (this one also hurt)
2005 - Bucknell - Round of 32 (This one hurt)
2004 - Georgia Tech - Championship Game

The point being... KU has lost to teams that went far for the most part... there are only 3 teams that didn't go to the final four. The majority of those losses were not flukes by any stretch of the imagination.

I'm not convinced which one is better and certainly not which will be better down the line. Frankly I just don't think it is anywhere near as cut and dried as you make it out to be. But, you love Marcus Smart. That's well-documented.

Ennis averaged more assists and fewer turnovers. And fewer suspensions. And fewer distractions. And fewer flops. Better shooter from distance. One fewer steal per game and one fewer foul. I don't think the gap is that wide, if at all.

And Ennis was a freshman. And I did watch both play. And Ennis looked more in control and dependable than Smart. Smart plays his ****ing ass off every minute, which I love. But Ennis could easily be the better PG.

ISU will win some games. Kane and Ejim are tremendous losses though.

KSU is bringing everybody but Spradling back right? (Addition by subtraction) if they could make a little hay. Low probability because Bruce Weber but there is talent there.

They're not going to compete for the title, but I'm interested to see what TT does. If Smith lands a couple decent recruits they could be a pain in the ass.

I only say Baylor because Isaiah Austin is growing into more and more of a force (as we're seeing in the tournament) and he's likely going to be sticking around. But they always do somehow find a way to underachieve during conference season (doesn't help that they have no home environment at all).
The one that surprises me in the tournament is Cherry. That dude was flat terrible in conference play, but in the tournament he starts playing like Pierre Jackson. If Cherry builds on this performance, they could be pretty tough.

Austin has improved quite a bit but people aren't trying to get physical with him and let him work in space. Oh and throw up shots over him like they don't know he's 7'1. Austin is good. And getting better but he is soft and will be as far as I can tell. But it's like these morons didn't watch any film on Baylor.

Iowa States gonna have some height next year for the first time under Fred. Especially if we add Temple transfer Lee that pretty much every school has called.

Every year everyone says Iowa State is going back down because we lose everyone... But Fred just puts out an even better team the next year. We only lose Ejim and Kane, so next years team will be his most experienced one he's had by far. Nader and McKay coming in who sat out this year, and still two openings one likely going to Anthony Lee.

Ejim is a freak athlete. Kane is the ****ing man.

That's going to be hard to replace.

Yeah, it's said every year. Ejim wasn't always this good either... He just really broke out his senior year.. Last year he was more of a glue guy like Hogue is for us this year.

But Fred doesn't really need to replace them, he will just put out his best players and run a new system like he has every year so far. It's nice not having a stubborn coach who needs x players for his system to work.
