Music Family Plans Throwdown

OK, I've been considering signing up for a music family plan so everyone in our family can listen to what they want. I see four main options.

Google Play Music Unlimited
Amazon Music Unlimited
Apple Music
Spotify

From what I have seen so far, whichever service you use, you are tied to their app so using a third party app is not an option. (this sucks for me because I absolutely love PowerAmp. Also, none of their apps feature an equalizer to get a richer sound.

Anyway, of the four services which offers the most bang for the buck as well as the least restrictions?

If possible, lets avoid any service flame wars. I'm just looking for information to make a good choice.

Oh, we are all on android. I have heard that the itunes app for android is still buggy so there is that.

well that backfired on me due to the device amazon and google have. I tried the Amazon Echo and didn't like it at all. Returned it to get the Google home and love it. Of course, I like the Amazon music service better than Google Play Music but can't use it on Google home. My main issue with Google play is that they fire off too damn many commercials on their free service. Looks like I may have to turn to Spotify. The only thing I don't care for on Amazon Music is the inability to have it block songs with explicit lyrics. They are pretty much the only service that has no option for this.

Regarding my initial question, the mrs and I determined we don't use the music services enough to warrant the montly fee. We are sticking to whats free and the music that comes with Amazon Prime membership. Its just too bad the Echo sucked.

What didn't you like about the echo? We like ours although it's use for 98% music, 1% turning off the lights, and 1% to ask it dumb questions. I really like the Amazon music service. Lots of good dancehall and reggae!

Just a heads up...Spotify doesn't have the ability to block songs with explicit lyrics either.

I could have sworn I read that it did. Haven't really tested it because the genre I listen to generally doesn't have an issue with crap lyrics. So basically its deal with an ad every two songs on google or give Pandora a shot. Its too bad none of them use apple music. They are listed as having the best explicit filter.

Mainly just being completely tied to the amazon service with no real escape. I know google is really not that much different in that regard but pretty much everything I have it tied to google anyway so it bothers me less. The main problems I had with echo was how easily one of my kids could order something and the fact that I had no control over explicit songs. Plus, it said I don't know how to do that so many times it got annoying. .

Home has been a better experience. Especially with the fact you can almost have a conversation with it without having to remind it what you were asking about previously.

I'd recommend setting up playlists to avoid these types of issues.

I know I could do that but I really don't want to set up a playlist of thousands of songs when I would like to be surprised with old songs I had completely forgotten about. Kind of defeats the purpose.

Just checked and that 6 month option is still available but only to sprint customers. Looks like Tidal doesn't have the explicit filter at all though. With it being a Jayzee thing, I'm not surprised.

It looks like Amazon is working to create an "Explicit" filter but there's no release date.

Apple Music and Pandora have an option to block explicit lyrics.

yep, looks like Pandora will have to be my paid option. Amazon has been ignoring it for over 3 years. They have been completely ignoring requests for it in their member forums. I seriously doubt they are ever going to implement it. I've called them about it 4 times in the past 3 years and all I ever get is "we will forward this to our suggestions department." Nothing ever actually happens.

Its sad because I do like their service quite a bit but just can't trust it to not throw in explicit music from time to time. And when it does, you can't miss it.
