Have you tried Basil Thai Kitchen off Garnet in PB? I remember it being pretty good. I ordered the Chicken Larb (great dish btw...) .. and they WILL make it spicy if you ask.

FWIW, you can say "thai hot", "thai spicy", "native", or simply tell them you want it hot like "they would". There is no proper way. I've been to Thailand. Over there I would ask for it "how locals like it", and it was pretty damned hot.

Never heard of a 1-10 escalator for Thai. Now 1-5 yes but maybe that is just on the west coast cause they can't count to 10. The restaurant owners not the patrons. Maybe back there in KC 1-10 gives you more choice. Seems kind of ridiculous, you would think a #3 and a #7 would be really far apart in heat. A #1 would basically be a #0 where a 10 would be a #5. I'm confusing myself. Carry on.....

I'm planning some Massaman chicken tomorrow, but I'm gonna sous vide the chicken. Then I'll use the chicken juice from the bag to fortify the sauce.

I managed to grab some thai for my birthday dinner last Saturday; crap it was good. Hot Phad Tai.
of course, on Friday (my actual birthday) I was all jazzed to go get some at my normal place - yeah.......it closed down. damnit.

In the KC area, I actually prefer Thai Spice in LS over Thai Place. I'm strictly a Pad Thai fan, I'm sure other dishes are tasty, I just love me some Chicken Pad Thai too much to try others. If I could combine the Thai Spice Pad Thai with Thai Place Crab Rangoon I would be in heaven.

in the last year i've become a Pho addict, there's a pho place on every corner. I love it because i can shoot it full of Sriracha and it makes it even better.
while back in KC i tried Pho KC down in the river market area. it was very good, but it came with lettuce instead of the basil which i don't understand. maybe its a regional thing. |
