Perhaps if people came at him educating him instead of condemning him that might be true. The Gay and Lesbian alliance will come after him and persecute him in the same way they don't want to be. There are plenty of people in this country that have problems or are uncomfortable with gay people. It has a lot to do with how they are raised, and usually revolves around religion. They aren't necessarily bad people that should be condemned. A slow understanding approach, and honest discussion is the way to go about it. You are going from one witch hunt to the next. You can't expect people change their views overnight. If we just need to give programmed responses then go ahead and write a script so we don't have to hear back lash about a similar story every ****ing day. What the guy said is stupid, but the response will be every bit as stupid.

No, the response will be overblown, but it comes from a group of people who have to fight bigotry and prejudice every day. His right to be ignorant and rude is not equal to their right to fair treatment. I agree he shouldn't be branded for life or anything, but it is reasonable for people to protest when someone stands in front of a mic and degrades them.

I'm sorry, please fill in blanks with the way I should really think and feel. I've surely never seen them try destroy a comedians career because they don't agree with their humor, and can't change the ****ing channel. Words are words. This is not a hate crime.

I agree with you in that people can be a little righteously indignant when something "offends" them. That said, I think that society has the duty to slap people on the wrist when they have horrible ideas. Like if a local politician wants to institute a "touch the stove a lot" policy. Under this new law, anyone passing by a hot stove must touch it to prove their loyalty to the God of the Stairs, or pay a fine. With the money raised from the fines, we will build a homeless shelter.

Now, I think we would all be within our rights to call this man an idiot. Probably a good dude. I mean, he wants to build a homeless shelter, but his ideas are... Well, horrible.

Same thing with bigotry. No matter how good of a dude this guy might be, THIS particular thing he said was pretty outrageous and all too familiar, and probably lies dormant and undisclosed in the hearts and minds of many... By calling this man out, and embarrassing him, in fact slapping the label "bigot" on him for a bit, we can get all of those who harbor these idiotic ideas to rethink. And know just exactly where their less than social intuitions stand in the marketplace of ideas.

I hate it when people retract what they said because of peer pressure.

I'm intolerant to intolerance.

Yawn.

So you're a hypocrite. Which is even worse than being tolerant.
