Just saw a meme on Facebook and it got me thinking, what are the most heartbreaking movie scenes in all of history?

Worst in a children's movie: Artax's death scene in the Swamp of Sadness in The Neverending Story.

Schindler's List and Private Ryan should be in their own category since they're based on real life. In terms of movies, I'll go with the end of Field Of Dreams when Costner says: "Dad?" and his father slowly turns around. "Wanna have a catch?"

Well crap I'm tearing up from watching YOUTube but at the end of Where The Red Fern Grows when Billy's dog 'Lil Ann lays her head on her brother's grave and dies and then a bit later Billy discovers a red fern has grown between the graves.

This. I had just lost my dad to cancer three months before I watched it, what a great story. We played "Man of the hour" at his funeral. Beautiful movie.

this is the exact scene I was thinking about / about to post.
I've seen the movie once - because of that scene. we have two dogs that are 11 years old that we got when they were about 6 months old. male and female. they're like peas in a pod. Separation anxiety when they apart etc. I cried like a baby at that scene.

Born on the Fourth of July. The "Moon River" dance scene. Also when Ronnie comes home from Vietnam paralyzed and he goes to hos room at his parents' house and immediately looks at his HS wrestling pic that was in a frame and his dad, who followed him into his room and was trying to maintain his composure since he returned home broke down and hugged him and cried. Ugh....heartbreaking as hell.
