Eric Downing wasn't even on my draft radar at defensive tackle, and while Minnis was a marginal pick on my draft list, I just don't see why we drafted him, based on the other talent available and the needs that the team has. I sincerely hope we find some good linebacker talent in the next round, because we certainly just let a lot get by...

Well, hopefully it works out for the best, but I have a bad feeling now I didn't have before. I have a feeling we're going to waste a pick tomorrow on a QB and we're not going to pay the attention to the defense that I, and a lot of other folks, think we need.

Have faith

Have faith Keg, I'm sure last year when they announced the Chiefs select Greg Wesley you were probably pissed or in total shock....mainly because most draft gurus never even had him on their draft boards.....It worked out pretty well....Don't just judge one or two picks, wait for the entire draft to take place and then judge it as a whole....We'll never really know how good a draft it is until aleast a couple years down the road.

Again from TSN.com

Marvin Minnis

War Room analysis
Strengths: Has good quickness and speed. Catches the ball in a crowd. Runs pretty good routes. Has excellent body control and balance. Is a deep threat and a factor in intermediate game.

Weaknesses: Is a bit on the skinny side. Has a small frame without much room to add weight. Is not a home run threat. Was academically ineligible for Florida State's national championship game and then showed up at the Senior Bowl with a chip on his shoulder -- a character red flag for scouts.

Bottom line: Minnis is undersized and carries some baggage, but he can play. He gets pushed around at the line at times, but he has great speed and the fact he emerged as such a playmaker from FSU's gifted receiving corps is validation enough. He knows where to be and always seems to make plays. If a coach can coach Minnis' attitude out of him, then Minnis has a chance to be a productive NFL player.

Dan Pompei analysis
Is a fluid runner with good hands. Is an instinctive receiver who plays with toughness. Is very productive. Is not a speed burner, but gets downfield. Is very thin, and might not be durable in the NFL. Is similar to Lamar Thomas. Might need an attitude adjustment.

Last year I reacted quickly with my thoughts on the players the Chiefs selected, and those thoughts were extremely negative. After finding out more about the players picked, I realized that I was offbase, and their play, especially Wesley's made me look somewhat foolish.
So I'll reserve judgement on these picks this year until I find out more.
I do question Snoop's selection. Not because of talent, but because of character. Seems good character is a trait that's important to VD, unless, of course when there's a talented player that he thinks could help his team.
Kinda the Bowden syndrome.

Judging by the commentary by Mark Malone on the telecast, we really had a Woodrow over Minnis, and that when we drafted Downing, Joyner was afraid that Snoop would be taken with the next pick. He did have a good year for Florida State, but I'm wary of a 1 year starter with academic (and well-publicised attitude) problems.

I'm still at a loss over the Downing pick though. That doesn't make any more sense than Denver taking the end they took in the second - both guys should have been available later.

This may sound amazing, but these are the two players I thought the Chiefs would get all along. Maybe a Henry or a Casper, but these are the players the Chiefs wanted all along.

As I said on the other BBs

This is why I could care less that we lost our 2nd rounder, Carl always reaches way too much in 2nd and 3rd round. Here is my view of the picks.

Minnis could very well be Lockett, he's frail, he will have trouble
getting away from tough physical CBs. If his hands are near the ball he
will catch it. He is not a speed receiver with a 4.53 40yd time,
but he has good moves. Bright side is he costs less than Lockett
against the cap and he is also a Charlie Joiner clone (well he will
be if Charlie can get him to go over the middle)

The lineman is a mystery, hope this is another Wesley where the
Chiefs know something because his stats suck and he sure did not
project as a 3rd rounder.

In addition I am liking the trade more and more, the Chiefs never impress when it comes to the draft. Should be better tommorow Carl always does his best work on the second day of the draft.

One thing about it, drafting first at #75, no one, and I mean no one, knows who will be worth the picks from here on out. Will one of them be the next Donnie Edwards or Will Shields, or will they all be wasted picks, we don't know. Just hoping to find a couple that can contribute.

Seems he has talent, but the biggest ? is stamina. That shouldn't be a problem in our rotation system keeping everybody fresh.

Logical,

You hit the nail on the head about Carl's reaches. Carl loves to tout the "steals" and "hidden gems" he has found. Passing on Barlow @ 75 for a DT that would have been available in the lower rounds was foolish. I am not sold on Priest Holmes. Chris Mortenson said it best this morning when he said that great runners rarely develop in the NFL. They usually show it from the begining. IMO, we could have had Barlow, Minnis, and Downing later if we wanted. And if we do miss on Downing, Fatefehi would have been a great consolation prize.

I love the Minnis pick. The guy needs to add strength, but he can be very effective as our 3rd or 4th reciever until then. As far as Downing, again, another pick we don't know much about, so we have to go by what the "draft experts" say about his value. I will say I am more confident in Carl's ability to draft defense than I am in his ability to draft offense, so I'll trust him with this pick, and we'll see. Robinson likes him, so apparently he will fit in with the scheme that we're going to use. According to all the web sites, the guy is a run stopper who is improving every year, and did well in the blue/gray game. We'll have to see. Maybe he could have been available down the line, or maybe someone else coveted him. You never know. Hell, look at Dallas' 2nd rounders. Unpredictable.I used the same argument with Wesley last year. Maybe we could have gotten him later, but reports were he had been moving up the charts of some teams as the draft approached, so sometimes you have to take the guy. It was definitely a need pick though, IMO.

Looking forward to our 7 picks tomorrow...

I love the Minnis pick also....I love the fact that he will probably soon be thrown on the Bam Morris/Tamerick Vanover scrap heap of thugs that we have out back at Arrowhead....

How in the world did you gain access to ALL the teams boards? Did Kiper tell you he would be around later? I mean, he knows everything. Until you people clearly define what a "reach" is and who gets to decide who is a reach, I'll have to assume you're making it up.
