Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles is on one of the new covers for Sports Illustrated.

Well, here’s hoping you don’t believe in the Sports Illustrated cover jinx.

The next issue of Sports Illustrated will have regional covers, one of which includes Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles. The other covers feature Green Bay’s Eddie Lacy, Philadelphia’s LeSean McCoy and UCLA’s Brett Hundley.


“It’s not my first time being on Sports Illustrated, so I’m not that excited about it,” said Charles. “It’s something somebody put on me ...”

Charles agreed to a new contract last week, one that reportedly will pay him $18 million. Charles rushed for 1,287 yards last season and 12 touchdowns. He also caught 70 passes for 693 yards and seven touchdowns.

Charles wasn’t concerned about the dreaded Sports Illustrated cover jinx.

“I don’t know about the jinx,” he said. “I just play football.”

I actually saw this issue today. Inside the story was mostly about Matt Forte and LeSean McCoy. I think it's a regional thing with Charles on the cover, maybe?

That's a guaranteed jinx.

Took them long enough to put the best running back in the league on a cover.
Maybe the best overall player?
