In this thread: All things related to the AL Champions.

Duncan's Official Team Record prediction: 90 wins
Duncan's Official Team MVP prediction: Eric Hosmer

I can't wait for this season to start. The AL Central should be a very entertaining race. I'll give brief thoughts on each team the Royals must contend with to make it back to the postseason - strengths and weaknesses.

Detroit Tigers:
Strength: The offense is still full of powerful hitters, and Miguel Cabrera may be healthier.
Weakness: Rotation is questionable after Price and Sanchez, bullpen continues to be horrible.

Cleveland Indians:
Strength: Great manager and a deep, versatile lineup.
Weakness: The rotation is a question mark past Corey Kluber, and even he has a few questions about him.

Chicago White Sox:
Strength: 1-2-3 combo of Sale, Quintana and Samardzija is pretty formidable. Offense is anchored by Jose Abreu, too.
Weakness: Defense still has major questions, and this team has 20 games to improve by if it really wants to make the playoffs.

The Royals will be a division winner IF ...
1) Ventura and Duffy combine for 375+ innings of high-quality work
2) Eric Hosmer delivers on his potential with a FULL season of success rather than bursts
3) The deeper bullpen lessens the critical load on Herrera, Davis and Holland
4) Lorenzo Cain stays healthy
5) Either Alex Rios or Kendrys Morales bounces back to 2013 form

Let's get this started!

Maybe if we cleat the fielder every time we have a runner headed to second the MLB will actually do something?

The only thing that was stupid is the A's playing the victim like they didn't know why we were going to plunk Lawrie. And then Reddick starts talking about retaliation and and the very next day, they bean our guy, so we send a message back (AND MANAGE TO NOT EVEN HIT ANYONE IN THE PROCESS).

So, the final score ends up: One guy plunked for the A's, One injured Royal, One plunked Royal, 1 suspended Royal, 1 fined Royal and multiple ejections.

That's not at all fair when you look at everything that happened on the field and in the locker room.

Probably reduced to 3 or 4. The umpiring crew should be suspended as well.

Pretty much. His spikes were up and hit Travis right in the chest.

Recklessness, not intent to injure. Nobody gets suspended for being reckless in MLB (especially not on a fairly common play like a spiked slide at 2B).

I understand that there are no "rules" in place to deal with overly aggressive plays like this, but there should be. We have a rule now that does not allow a base runner to plow into a catcher. So how is this different?

Perhaps if there was such a rule, Lawrie would have been ejected on the spot and this whole mess could have been avoided.

No officer I did not intend to injure that woman when I slammed my car into the back of her car. She was driving slow, and I wanted her out of the way. How was I to know she'd get hurt when I rammed her car into a ditch?
