USA Today predicts Chiefs at 4-12 for 2014

I could see it happening but really 6-8 wins seems pretty doable.

AFC West

Broncos 12-4 (2): Could be better than 2013 team even if wins and offensive output dip. But schedule is murderous.

Chargers 8-8: Last year's schedule allowed late-season charge. This year's could easily produce late-season slide.

Chiefs 4-12: Tight salary cap meant crippling free agent defections, and they didn't sufficiently reload in draft.

Raiders 3-13: Best thing influx of over-the-hill vets can do is change culture. Carr, Mack promise brighter days ahead.

HORRIBLE grade.

We lost starters to free agency.

He did not use free agency to plug any loss of starter or previous area of weakness.

The draft did not plug any hole or loss of starter...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Shouldn't a GM have some grip to use/play with? Yeah, you can hypothesize about removing Smith from the equation and the resulting cap-space, but the man was told to get Reid the QB he wanted.

Not that I approve of getting Reid the QB the wanted.

Who should we have replaced? And with who?

getting Smith was last year, we are talking about this year

We lost 6 starters and gain 1 in FA

as far as i know, none of our draft picks are even favored to start

terrible offseason

big kudos to Reid if he can be successful this year with less talent and a harder schedule

we lost significant talent this offseason ..... period.

The important question is why?

It is salary cap cleaning?
Is is 'wait until Peyton Manning dies?
Is is GM incompetence?

I'm not even bringing up rebuilding because that isn't a viable reason. If we are rebuilding then we should have traded for more draft picks etc.

We didn't lose significant talent man. Albert is the only player that you could make that case for.

It looks like it's careful financing that Dorsey is implementing. This money is going to go to Berry, Poe, Smith and Houston in the next 2 years.
Why do you want to use it all on free agents and lose these guys?

National media doesn't know a lick about this team. They just look at last year's record and the free agent adds/departures.

I think 4 wins is a ridiculous prediction... but it would be classic Chiefs to fall apart this year.

I see 11 games I think the Chiefs go 5-6 in, with 5 toss-up types that could go either way. If they win all 5 of those again, they sneak into the playoffs (and probably do better than 5-6 in the other 11 games).

But I see them at 2-3 or 3-2 in those toss-ups... 7-9 or 8-8 would be my prediction. (good news is I predicted 7-8 or 8-8 last season, too)

My picks:

National media doesn't know as much but also is probably not riding as much unabashed hope as Chiefs fans must in several key spots.

The Chiefs need a LOT of things to go right to improve as a team. Odds of all of those happening are not tremendous.

It would actually be classic NFL. Teams always yo-yo while rebuilding, rarely do you see a team go from top-5 pick to 10 or 11 wins and not drop back down again a bit before things really click in and they have sustained success. But...4 wins is just an insane prediction. 7 or 8 would make sense. Maybe even 6 if things go really badly, like everything that possibly can go wrong does, circa 2012. Whereas a 4 win season would basically be grounds for scrapping the whole front office and coaching staff again. That would just be a disastrous year.

Come on, man. Kendrick Lewis? Dexter? Asamoah? Geoff Schwartz? Branden Albert?

We lost the most significantly replaceable veterans I've ever seen.

The only thing significant about that talent was how bad this team's drafting has been.
