Chiefs reach out to Louis Riddick for GM spot

@RapSheet: The #Chiefs have reached out to ESPN analyst Louis Riddick to set up an interview for next week for their now-vacant GM job, sources say.

Report: Chiefs want to interview Louis Riddick for G.M. opening

Posted by Josh Alper on June 25, 2017, 10:53 AM EDT

The Chiefs made waves last week with the surprising announcement that they had dismissed General Manager John Dorsey after four years with the team.

The team’s co-directors of player personnel*Mike Borgonzi and Brett Veach are expected to be candidates for a promotion, but the team will be looking outside the organization as well. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Chiefs want ESPN analyst Louis Riddick*to interview*for the job.

Riddick was a defensive back for several teams in the 1990s and worked in the personnel departments in Washington and Philadelphia before making the move to TV. Riddick interviewed for the 49ers General Manager vacancy earlier this year before they hired John Lynch.

Riddick said he was close to getting that job and,*true or not, it looks like he’s getting another chance to make his case for running an NFL personnel department.

I like Riddick when he was on NFL Insiders but this sure seems like a desperation move by kc.

Since they didn't actually do it I don't think it counts as a desperation move.

Reddick was initially an Alex Smith supporter but has changed his mind. By that standard the half of Chiefs planet that never wanted
Smith are more qualified.

I think going after an external candidate that was passed over by multiple teams including the team with the worst GM situation in the league (the 49ers) is pretty desperate. I don't understand the timing. They better be sold as hell on Veach to make this move.

When you've decided to pick a new GM in the middle of summer after all positions have been filled, your options are pretty limited.

How many times does it need to be said: IT DIDN'T HAPPEN. THE CHIEFS DIDN'T CONTACT HIM.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).
