****Official PC vs Console thread****

Well, with the way some threads get going in here, and not wanting to poop in other peoples threads, I figured this is a good way to pass some time.

I wouldn't be mad if a mod went through the last PC V Console posts in the next gen thread and moved them over

I'll start -

I would like to point out the above image that currently the revenue for consoles is currently higher. This is because console games, on average, are nearly twice the price of PC titles.

DISCUSS

edit: I would like to bring conversation in other threads to this thread as they appear, to avoid hijacking legit console or other media threads~

Let me know how that works out when Sony stops making games for the PS3 and you have to upgrade to a PS4 to keep gaming on a console.

I'd much rather pay an extra $250 upfront and build something like http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2AZqn than buy a PS4 or Xbone.

If you can afford to spend that extra money upfront, there really is no reason to own both unless there are exclusives you just absolutely must play, but there's usually much better alternatives that are similar to that game on PC.

I agree

I actually own both a PC that I play a ton of games on and a ps3 that I play games that don't come out on pc on. Like Madden the show. Owning both is a great way to go.

I paid 300 bucks, had my ps3 for 4 years until I just bought my Ps4 for 400 bucks. I would say 700 bucks for a minimum of 7-8 years of gaming, is a pretty great deal.

Well XP was released 13 years ago. So yeah, things have changed a bit.

I haven't upgraded video card drivers in over a year. I've been PC gaming for over 20 years, and I've never heard anyone who considered upgrading drivers to be a serious drawback to PC gaming. You're being overdramatic.

Could spend that much money to just build a computer that will last just as long, with room to upgrade in the future, and have the benefits of cheaper/free games, that offer a better gaming experience, and not have to buy a computer.

Swap out that motherboard in that build I linked for http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813130637 and you've got a computer that can sli/crossfire in 8/8. You will not beat that on a console in the next decade and you wont save more money on the console over that timespan.

It also served as my blue ray player, and streaming device for my amazon prime subscription, as well as watching NFL Sunday ticket.

Not saying it isn't, but isn't a Blue Ray player an extra money option, especially back in 2008?

You can get a Blue Ray drive for $30 more than just your standard optical drive if you wanted to get one.

At the end of the day, with cost over time being comparable over a 7-8 year stretch, playing on a console is just more preferable. I prefer the UI, the exclusives that come to consoles, the fact none of my friends play on PC, the obscurity of trying to piece together a machine just so you don't end up paying over 1,000 bucks for a top of the line PC that has more detail in graphics. Bf4 on my PS4 plays at 60 FPS, and looks great. Having more detail on rocks or blades of grass won't change my experience, and again, the UI of console features is going to be more intuitive( I.e. Setting up PS4 party chat vs Ventrillo). Both are great in their own respects.

In cost over time PC wins dramatically. It is only the up front cost tha tis lower on a console.

Your ps4 plays bf4 on medium settings, at 720p (****ING LOL) at 60 fps. You dont think you could build a PC for that money that could do better? Oh yes, yes, you can. For the same dollar amount!

Other arguments such as OMG DRIVERS and OMG PS4 PARTY CHAT EASIER THAN VOICE COMM PROGRAM are intellectually dishonest, because you are talking about SECONDS of time difference, for far, far, far, MORE functionality.

So yea, dont need to spend that kind of money.

Console more portable? Its a PC case layed on its side. In fact, there are tons of LAN party cases out there that are made specifically to be portable.
No shit?
