Heck. I accidentally submitted the poll after my first four votes. I should've had a couple more votes, which would've gone to Deion Sanders and Anthony Munoz.
As it stands, my four votes went (in order) to Dan Marino, Barry Sanders, Alan Page, and Deacon Jones. Not a Super Bowl winner to be found.

Interestingly, only seven of these guys ever won a Super Bowl or NFL championship.

As a public service announcement, I post the link below. If there is a player that you never saw play but have heard is pretty good, you might want to check out their accomplishments. This list isn't Gospel, but its a start.

Page was my final choice. There are probably 10 guys off this list that I could put in that position.

Phobs, I detect a joke at my expense, but my ego is running with the bait, so here goes:
Sanders is a real debate for me. Fantastic cover guy, great returner (interceptions or punts), but tackling against the run or pass was always suspect. Also a little too mercinary for my tastes. Farve was probably the 5th best QB among his career peers, after Montana, Marino, Elway, and Manning. How do you argue that he should be in this select group? I could live with Favre or Dieon if Deacon Jones had been on the list. Probably a better DE than Bruce Smith. Jones had 173.5 career sacks (unofficial) in 14 seasons compared to 200 for Smith in 19 seasons for Smith. Throw in the facts that Jones played fewer games per season and that the league was run oriented in the '60s and '70's when Jones played. Jones perfected the (now illeagal) head slap and popularized the very term "sack". Listed by TSN as the 13th best player in NFL history, you just can't leave him off this list. |
