Another reason this is BS: Unless the Chiefs are comfortable paying Smith 8.5 million this year and 7.5 million next year, they'd have to renegotiate with him. You're telling me the Chiefs are going to announce a trade without negotiating and without even having Smith in for a physical?

I agree with this. Albert can go out on the market and get paid a lot of money by some team. I wouldn't be surprised to see San Diego throw a ton of money his way.

Timing makes me think it is the chiefs. All that talk about this poor QB class from Dorsey, and reports of Reid liking Alex, etc. Then Geno has a good combine, Chiefs show interest, and the 49ers are like, "hai cheefs! Remember Alex Smith and that deal we worked out???"

Time to balk. Or not and we all get ****ed.

I seriously wonder why teams don't try to do this more often. I know it's probably a degree of collusion, but not if you get caught. It should be incredibly simple to make a few dozen phone calls to all the GMs getting them to agree to a union against one team.

He will get paid big here in KC or he will get paid big by somebody else.

By talking up Joeckel we are feeding him momentum to go elsewhere.

Alex Smith is a message to this fanbase that this team is ready to completely re-do all the bullshit of the past four years.

Brandon Albert is not Joe Thomas, but he deserves to get paid.
