Interesting tidbit from the FSU board. Might explain why a bowl wasn't named.

Quote:
"Lost in the hoopla of the deal is the significance of the deal............and the significance isn't that the ACC has been squeezed out of having a big time post season partnership. The significance is that this bowl will be the very first conference-owned bowl. Every bowl in the country is owned and operated by that specific bowl. The Rose Bowl, for instance, has a partnership with the Pac-12 & Big Ten, but they are a separate entity. They aren't owned by the Pac-12 or Big Ten. And, that goes for all other bowls.

With this move, the Big XII and SEC are attempting to start their own bowl. It's literally the first bowl that is fully separated from the bowl system. So, whereas the Orange Bowl could decide to sign contracts to host other conferences, this yet to be named bowl will be fully internalized w/in the Big XII and SEC. It'll take some time to shop all of the parts of the bowl.........location, tv, etc. (It won't start until 2015.) But, the expectation is the payout will be the largest in bowl history, and that includes the current BCS. Now, the Big XII and SEC have taken the guess work out of bowl season. They've essentially guaranteed a huge payout to their teams in addition to the playoff payout, and they've guaranteed they will never have to face one of the weak, unattractive (for TV) teams from a lesser league.

Major, major power play, and it just put those two conferences on another level from everyone else, including the Big Ten and Pac-12. As if the Big XII wasn't attractive enough for FSU and others, think about having a guaranteed $20M+ payday for your #3 team (obviously divided amongst the conference), on top of having 2 in the playoffs making even more."

That seems to jive what what Matt Hayes heard.

Matt Hayes @Matt_HayesSN
Source to SN: Goal of new #SEC-Big12 bowl is a stand-alone game with its own (separate) TV contract. Revenue potential “unthinkable.”

------------

Very smart move for both conferences. It ensures a great annual match-up like the Rose Bowl, instead of OU vs. crap random team like UConn in the Fiesta or Georgia vs. crap random team like Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl.

Good lord.

Can we please start calling Dan Beebe for the incompetent assclown that he is? Once the B12 put legitimate leadership in place, they've simply rocketed past the PAC and even the B1G in the pecking order.

This is a conference that was literally one yes or no vote from dissolving under Dan Beebe a year ago and now it appears well on its way to being the 2nd strongest conference in the country.

With every passing day, I can only be more and more astounded by just how awful a job Dan Beebe did with his stewardship of that conference.

This suggests that he offered any guidance or counsel at all, which clearly never happened.

Overall, I agree; this clown is trying hard to be remembered as the single biggest assclown in all of major sport. However, let's not pretend that the current leadership is unquestionably astute, since Grandpa is still waiting outside of Kemper, anticipating the start of the Big XII tournament.

Well the Big 12 is still on shaky ground, all it takes is Texas to change their mind.

At this juncture, this talking point is absolutely foolish, and beyond worn out.

Neinas and Slive are both deviously brilliant.

I don't think anyone on the message boards was even clever enough to speculate that the SEC and Big 12 could create their own brand-new conference-owned bowl. It benefits the SEC to be tied to the 2nd-strongest league for guaranteed good games and paydays, same for the Big 12, who from their end must love the shot at the ACC probably forcing them to abandon their league, and everyone will probably be showered with crazy old uncle Jerry's Cowboy money. If the Big 12 is accused of interference with the ACC, then FSU, Clemson, or whoever will simply point at this deal as the turning point that made them reach out, whether true or not.

This was a masterstroke.

Are they really that brilliant, or was Beebe just that damned incompetent? That's not to say what Neinas has done in a very short period to turn what looked to be imminent disaster into a strong base, I won't take that away from him.

Of the four original schools that bailed on the Big XII, how big of a role did Beebe and his (in)actions play?

This game is also an ace in the hole for the SEC. If the Big 10 and PAC 12 try to give the SEC a "do playoffs this way, or we're walking, take it or leave it" kind of ultimatum, then the SEC can simply walk. Most years this game would have the #1 team in the country, and the other team would usually be no worse than #6, if not top-3 or 4. It would become the defacto championship game.

I think it's mostly Beebe's incompetence.

I said in the original realignment thread that it was absurd that the B12 was getting picked clean. They had 3 legitimately historic football powerhouses and a bunch of very good supporting schools at varying degrees of ascendance. They also had a great geographic location that should allow them to draw from any quadrant of the country.

Instead, they essentially took every advantage they had and somehow made a disadvantage of it. They lost Nebraska because they treated them like a stepdaughter and let the remaining power teams in OU and UT start to kick the rest of the league in the dick even harder. Suddenly their geography is turned against them because they're adjacent to nearly every major conference. Then the fact that they have strong secondary schools like A&M, Mizzou, and Okie Lite getting partial cuts of the revenue was turned on them as well and their response was "eh...**** 'em".

They pulled out the biggest gun they had, pointed the stock at the rest of the conferences, and immediately shot themselves in the chest.

As a staggering conference that damn near imploded, they still had enough advantages to get their feet back under them and get things moving again once they didn't have a complete moron in charge.

Mizzou still moved to the nicest neighborhood in town, but the B12 did a hell of a job of getting out of their own way and finally capitalizing on all the good things they had going for them, as opposed to pissing it all down their legs.
