Unreal Estate Game: Tennessee
ssume that you idly buy a state lottery ticket while getting a doughnut at 7/11, and voila! You're a winner! You win your choice of one the five houses that will be shown.
I'll give you five houses in a state, and you vote on the house you would take. Background rules: Assume that your job situation won't need to change - you can find an identical job or work from home or whatever, so jobs don't matter. Consider the house itself and the location and anything else that's important to you (schools, restaurants, lot size, etc.). Feel free to do a google map search to check out the neighborhood and the area. You cannot sell the home. You can live in it as long as you like, but when you move out, it reverts back to the state as a prize for a future winner. All houses will generally be in the $900,000 to $1 million price range. All maintenance and utilities and taxes are cost-neutral compared to your current home. If you wouldn't move into any of these homes, you can instead accept a cash prize of $50,000 (tax free). Today's state is Tennessee. Here are your five houses: Jackson - http://www.realtor.com/realestateand...1_M75316-60610 Kodak - http://www.realtor.com/realestateand...760099#photo37 Memphis - http://www.realtor.com/realestateand...-91094#photo26 Nashville - http://www.realtor.com/realestateand...5_M83885-71884 Tellico Plains - http://www.realtor.com/realestateand...5_M84445-96045 |

By the way, it's definitely worth your time to check out photo 26 of the Kodak house.

My rankings. For the most part, I'm a big fan of the very eclectic Tennessee options.
1 - Memphis - That staircase. Oh, that staircase! Look at that staircase! I really like this style of house. It's in a great location near a big park and lots of restaurants. It's not an out of the box choice, but it's a great house. 2 - Kodak - Okay, where to start? First off, I want that elephant head. This place is fascinating. It's totally bizarre, but I could really live here. You've got three interesting houses: a modern cool looking place, an amazing rustic cabin that Daniel Boone probably delivered mail to, and then a really cool cabin by the river. You could have guests and put them in their own house, which would be neat. It's in the middle of nowhere, but there's a town at a reasonable distance and it would be easy to hop onto the highway to go to Knoxville. I really like this place. 3 - Tellico Plains - Awesome house with great acreage. The guest house is fun, too. This might be a winner if it was located near services. But it's a bit too remote to be a winner. It's a close call between this place and Kodak for second place. 4 - Nashville - It's a really cool California ranch. I love the look of the house, and if you do a streets view, the neighborhood is gorgeous. I'm a fan of this house. It's reasonably convenient to restaurants and stuff and isn't far from the central city. I could go for this house, but it's got some tough competition. 5 - Jackson - I'm not sure how a 5,000 square foot house has only three bedrooms, but that's not my business. It's a big house on a lot of nice forested land with a cool gate. It's got nice woodwork and two kitchens in the house, which I presume is good for some reason. However, it's in the boondocks and google shows five Subway restaurants among the nearest six restaurants. I'll pass on this one.

What the hell with that kitchen in the Memphis house? That thing is a complete disaster. That's like meeting an attractive woman on a blind date only to see that she has a golf ball sized boil on her upper lip.
I'll assume Bwana will take one each of the Jackson and Kodak places, but I'll take the 50K for this round. |

I love that Tellico Plains house. It says it's only a mile and a half from the town there so the drive won't be bad.

Yeah, but it's a pretty small town. It does have a barbecue place, though, which is good as long as it's not Carolina barbecue.

For a state that is loaded with hickory trees and wood TN does not do good BBQ, at least here in Nashville.

Tennessee touches both Carolina (bad bbq) and Missouri (good bbq). I could see why Tennessee would have mixed reviews.

Yeah but the local beer distributorship would see a dramatic increase in sales.
