What was the Chiefs' easiest and most likely path to victory in the middle-end of the 3rd quarter when shit really started collapsing?

Get the offense to sustain some drives, or get the secondary to suddenly play better?

Forget the "blame" part of the conversation if that puts it in a better light. You have to win the ****ing game. SOMETHING has to happen. What's it going to be, and how successful will that strategy be?

But the one thing you can point to and say Alex Smith should have done better, is play clock.

You are trying to burn clock, and you are a smart QB, then why the hell are you snapping the ball with 7 seconds or more remaining on the play clock?
AJ Jenkins and McCluster running out of bounds on catches didn't help either.

It's like the smart people thought no way the worst case scenario could happen so they didn't take precaution to prevent it.

That's ****ing false. When OTW and I call him out on it, he goes into his usual "40 points! 28 point lead!" circle and we begin the process again.

Andy Reid put Alex in a terrible position. The injuries put Alex in a terrible position. Sure. But given a layout of the situation, what was the most likely path to victory? Kendrick Lewis not being an enormous waste of oxygen, or the offense doing just a little bit more than the did?

I'd go with the offense.

And that's part of the blame (yes, "blame") that Alex Smith deserves. He's not a little baby. Quit coddling his ass and acting like he can do no wrong.
I wish Smith hadn't fumbled, and I wish that pass to Gray had been complete. That's where I stop blaming Smith, he did a lot more good than bad in that game.

You guys are nuts. You want to say Smith deserves some blame because the offense slowed down. With the lead they had, they should have been able to kneel on the ball every possession of the 4th quarter and still win.

Again for the one millionth time, every loss is a team loss, but you're crazy if you don't put a whole bunch on a defense that was almost historically bad in the second half.

can't blame Smith or the offense...

can blame Reid and the coaching.

You never play "not to lose" football. And that's what we did offensively and defensively.

Yes, Saccopoo. You are coddling Smith. I'm shocked you can even type with a 31-year old man suckling at your goddamn teat.

Except, as we pointed out, Alex Smith alone got 12 first downs. And when I say alone, I'm saying with almost completely negative help from everyone else.

Most teams that need to burn clock run the ball down the other team's throat. We were really, really awful at that in the second half. Not enough people are blaming the second half running game, even though a lot of that was poor playcalling.

I'm laying MOST of my blame on a defense that gave up five TDs, in less than a quarter and a half averaging under 2 minutes a drive. You seem to want to steer it to Smith and the offense.

Yes, they played a lot better in the first half. But they absolutely imploded in the last quarter. They get most of the blame, they deserve most of the blame.

If you were going to, just for fun, say someone was most to blame, who would it be?
There is no MOST of the blame. You're trying to assign something that DOESN'T EXIST.

There is no verifiable way to calculate it. Christ, you want to give the "majority" of the blame to the side of the ball that played a HUGE role in getting us a 28 point lead.

You can't have it both ways. The offense and defense played well enough to win in the first half. Technically, we "won" the first half 31-10.

Sadly, neither the offense or defense played well enough to win in the second half. That's represented by getting outscored 35-13.

You hypocrites want to ignore the play of the defense in the first half and lay the blame at their feet for the loss, while praising the offense (Alex) and ignoring their poor play in the second half.

Sorry, but we see through your bullshit.

There's a few problems. On the one side, you have people expecting more from Alex Smith than what I would call beyond a hall of fame performance. He was that good when you look at the game in its entirety. Even if this was Peyton Manning or Brady or Brees, people would have called this an exceptional game.

On the flip side, you have people so insistent on blaming the defense that they don't talk enough about the awful offensive playcalling or running game.

I don't think anyone is calling Smith blameless. I think those defending his performance are saying that he did not just more than enough, but WAY more than enough to win this game, and his teammates from the top down had probably the worst supporting cast second half performance in playoff history.

If I had a big criticism about the 2nd half, it would be the play calling on 1st down once we entered the Colts half of the field... Possession being between 40 and 50 yard line. Right on the edge of scoring range with one more 1st down. Happened 3 times, we got 0 points

The 1st time, we were up 38-17, and were right at the 50. Run on first down left us in passing situation on 2nd down, and we wound up having to punt.

Three possessions later, we are up 41-31, and get a 1st and ten at Colts 43. Run on first down. Again left in have to pass on second down. Don't convert. Have to punt.

Last time was our last drive. 1st and 10 at Colts 42. Run on 1st down leaves us in 2nd and long.

Every one of these possessions we were moving the ball on the pass. We will never know, but I think we should have kept them on their heels on first down in that critical area of the field.

The strategy should have been to run the ****ing ball and burn time off the clock.
By the time the game was close, we had lost Donnie Avery, Jamaal Charles and Mike Davis.

So Bowe is our only capable WR, no RB available and a hurt TE's all year. Did I mention he made a perfect pass that Bowe ****ed up in the end?

Sure it does. Use your gut instinct. Who were you really mad at after the game? Just the whole team? If so, okay fine. I was really mad at Lewis, and Demps, and the secondary.

My thought about Smith was I felt bad. I thought he did what he could to win. Injuries and an almost historic defensive meltdown, I don't put on him.

There are two on this page alone.

A HOF performance? You see that almost every week in the NFL. It's exceptional to you because it wasn't expected.

There is no such thing as "enough" until the clock hits 0:00. Remember that Cowboys-Broncos game last season?

Romo got BLASTED here for losing a game in which he threw for over 500 yards, 5 TD's and scored 48 points. He played exceptional football for 55 minutes of a 60 minute game. But he took the blame almost universally.

And that's far from the only instance.
