It's about drones and the end of "dogfighting".

It should be about the f-22 Raptor, which is going to pretty much end dog fighting, because nothing will even come close to shooting one out of the sky.

They could make it like the Pentagon Wars when the whole thing was centered around how badly they ****ed up designing the Bradley.

So essentially they'd spent 10 minutes talking about the Raptor, then the rest of the movie trying to phase it out in favor of the POS F-35. You could have dogfighting scenes with A-4s and T-45s shooting their billion dollar jets out of the sky using late 70's technology.

Then Kelsey Grammer could show up and gruffly explain things while Carey Elwes and Toby Ziegler sigh a lot.

I'll post more if/when I hear more plot details but as of now, the script doesn't even exist, just the basic outline of the new generation of drone fighters vs. old school dogfighting.

Tom Cruise has been fighting for this film for a decade and if they've finally cracked the nut, it should be a fun ride, although I'd set my expectations fairly low because the first film was genius.

The other challenge they face (and IMO, it'll make or break the film), is that the cast of Top Gun featured so many mid-20's talented actors like Cruise, Kilmer, Tim Robbins, Anthony Edwards, Adrian Pasdar and even Rick Rossovich.

The talent gap is huge in 2017 versus 1985 (when the movie was filmed).

Who are they going to cast? A bunch of Disney kids?

There's a real dearth of mid-20's male talent right now.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

And don't forget, the score by Harold Faltermeyer, along with the Oscar winning Take My Breathe Away by Berlin, along with the The Top Gun Theme with Steve Stevens, is as iconic as the film itself.

I think it would best to pivot to something uniquely different than the original.

Bruckheimer involved at all?

It was basically one of the first pics that started his 'brand'

Unfortunately for this movie the F-22 is USAF property, not USN.

Boeing currently has two unmanned fighters under contract that fit very similar parameters...
