football doesn't matter much any longer...
When you get a text at 2 am indicating your Pops had been admitted to the hospital with after suffering a coronary. Sitting here waiting for 2 hours with no news kinda blows but I presume he will get cleaned out and be fine in a couple days. He's 64.
Update: He's fine. Two stents and he'll be home in 2 days. Pretty minor by today's standards but he'd be dead if this were 30-40 years ago. Last edited by Phobia; 01-04-2014 at 12:42 PM.. |

That is some stressful stuff.
My grandpa, who was nothing short of a 2nd dad to my brothers and I, died 3 years ago at age 71 after battling various complications from CAD that began when he was 58. If it weren't for the perma-damage he accumulated as a result of refusing to go to the hospital until 12-14 hours after his initial heart attack began at age 58, he'd probably still be alive today. I am bitter to this day about some of the circumstances of his passing...especially the fact that he died a couple weeks before my first daughter (and his first great grandchild) was born. I will be pissed until the day I die that he never met my children. With that said, for what it's worth, I sincerely wish the best for your father and hope he has a speedy recovery. I hope there isn't any substantial perma-damage and hope he rebounds from this like a champ and that your family is able to spend another couple decades with him. |

He is the same age I am, and the medical technology in this area is amazing now. I have had my 4 stints now for 6 years. We just had Dad's 90th last Friday, and he is clear living evidence of the cardiology profession. You should take this as a warning though, as genetics are one of the 5 main contributors to this problem, the one you can't control. |

Yeah. I'm wary. My grandpa dropped dead of a massive coronary when he was 80. Dead before he hit the floor. Been 20 years this June. I was in Okinawa and couldn't get home in time for the funeral. One of my regrets from my military career. But, yeah - I need to take care of myself which is why I stay pretty darn active.

That is great you are keeping active Phil, keep it up. They sent me through a 15 week rehab program to try and change my habits. Diet, exercise, stress, smoking and genetics are the 5 key contributors. |

Great news! 64 is pretty young still. Damn I'm right there too.

He is fine. In fact, just dropped mom at home so she can sleep and I am headed to bed too. He is all fixed up and will be home Sunday.
