Would peyton manning get more out of this offense than Alex Smith?

Absolutely. Tell me something. Without Julio Jones, and Roddy White, how has Matt Ryan looked?

This is Alex Smith. Smith without phenomenal talent, is Matt Ryan.

Don't tell me that talent wouldn't help alex smith.

Great weapons make mediocre qbs look great. Have for years.

yes, elite qbs can make okay talent look better, it can also work the other way.

Even with a great qb, the talent on the chiefs would still be mediocre.

Its that bad.

Including Alex Smith. Hes included. Everyone on the offense outside of Charles is in that Category.
So.... we can either use all our resources providing enough "Weapons" around Alice Smith for him to look adequate. Or we can simply replace our limited QB and see the offense instantly improve.

Replace 10 other guys to make one look good.... or replace one to make the other 10 look good? Hmmmmmmm...... Where on Earth have we heard that before?

And the last bolded sentence is pure bullshit. If Peyton Manning were the Chiefs QB, we'd be straight rapin everybody and you know it.

But, "there was no one in the draft worthy of picking..."

And for every time thats said, there's almost always 1 or 2 that turned out to be worthy of picking.
Dorsey and Reid looked at this roster and decided to operate in win-now mode. Drafting a QB early and hoping that he will pan out requires 2-3 years of growing pains unless we luck into a Brady/Wilson types.
I think playmaking ability at WR and TE is more important if this O has to take the next step. We are not changing the QB of a team that is going to win at least 10 games and will be in the playoffs.

I admit I'm not so great at reading. I think, for example, I haven't grasped whether or not you would have kept Cassel. This is, perhaps, entirely based on the above post.

Do you really believe that Smith is no better than Cassel? If so, well, I guess we don't really need to be having any kind of serious discussion.

It's maddening but I think that's what continues to give so many people here hope for our offense.
we are all hoping that Bray steps up and wins the QB job next year.

Bray behind this Oline would be death, he can't move and our Oline stinks.

Our Defense was good enough to win against Denver
Jamaal Charles and Knile Davis were good enough to win
Alex Smith was good enough to win

So who is available to replace Alex while also not jeopardizing our SB aspirations in the short term?

The name of the game on offense is to score points. Cassel couldn't, Smith can't. So where's the big difference?

Right now? We're not benching Smith or acquiring anyone else this year, that's silly. Not after trading 2 #2 picks for him. It's too late now, that train left the station long ago. The problem was that it left the station before most other options could even be considered...

You can't be serious. So you are saying that Cassel should have kept his job as starting QB for the Chiefs in 2013? That is your argument?

Or is it that we should have just drafted QB's in every round because surely one of them will turn out worthy of being picked?

Yes.. And by making a trade that now strips us of two 2nd round picks and posting what, realistically speaking, will be an 11-5ish record, we're likely married to the guy for another season or two.

I know Reid's moved on from starting QBs in the past, but I'll wait until I see him do it before I count on it happening here.
