There's my rundown.

To go a little more indepth, I think we absolutely have to stop their running game. If they can run the ball, they can then use play action effectively and that will be just too much for us to handle.

We have to make this game Carson vs The Chiefs. Which of course, means our offense better be clicking.

Look for the Chiefs to get yds running to the right to the outside. The addition of Adams in the middle makes it difficult early to get those yds inside. But make Adams run a little, then in the 4th quarter you can start running inside with success. This is made more difficult by Black having to run RT. But look for a lot of three tight end sets.

It is out of two tightend sets that the passing game is going to take place. The short routes and passes to the RB and TE will be in play early. Shots down the field will be more opportunistic. The longer developing plays won't be possible in the passing game until the line is more seasoned.

As far as the defense, I too am concerned that we may have some falling off from last years run defense due to the cover 2. The LB are asked to drop fast away from the line in protecting pass plays. It may leave us more vulnerable to inbetween tackle runs.

The pass defense will be improved but we might not see it in the statistics with such a high powered passing attack. But I am betting that we will get to Palmer more than the Bengals will like.

How the tackles play both defense and offense will decide the outcome of this game.

Chiefs 31 Bengals 24

  1. establish the rushing game
  2. punish Palmer on every play that involves a passing situation either by QB pressure hit or sack.
  3. Protect Green
  4. DBs must hold their own & be disciplined with their coverage.

Tynes and Colquitt need to be on their games. Sims needs to look like he did in the first game last year before he got hurt. Svitek needs to find another gear since he is probably tired from playing in NFLE.

Oh, and the parachute plane needs to drop Willie Roaf on target.

At least from what I saw last year, we're much better at stopping fat backs than speedy quick guys. We should hold Rudy to under 100 on the day I think

The key to victory is thus:

At the end of the game, turn to the microphones and say, "Things kinda got out of hand early, and then snowballed. But our guys fought to the bitter end. I was proud of 'em - it was a moral victory."

I'm going to skip the things that I already think we'll do well, like run the ball and stop the run. Between LJ and our LBs, I don't expect a letdown in those areas.

My keys to the game fall in categories where I believe we have legit questions marks.

1. Protect Green. I think it's important that Green is able to throw the ball for this offense to click like we'll need against Cincy. Green's play has always been at his best when he's comfortable in the pocket, and with two new tackles, I think it's vital that our O-line proves that Green will have a pocket to throw from.

2. Pressure Palmer. The Cover 2 will always have holes in the middle of the field (especially with Kendrell Bell on the field). If Palmer has time to make his progressions, he's going to tear us apart 7 and 8 yards at a time much like Eli did in the pre-season. I know better than to expect big things out of our LBs in coverage, so that means we're going to have to rattle Palmer. Even if we can't get sacks, I think the front 4 has to create enough pressure that Palmer always feels like he's hurrying throws.

If our offense can play like we've come to expect from the Chiefs O, I think it will be enough even if the D isn't up to par. If our offense struggles, I fear that we'll be needing more from this D than it's ready to give this early in the year.
