If the plan I'm suggesting about paying the players a salary and doing away with scholarships goes through, it would definitely have a negative effect on the players. They would truly become employees and could be "fired" at any moment for any reason. The players that aren't "irreplaceable" as you call them (which is a ****ing joke by the way) would really be ****ed because their worth wouldn't demand a big enough salary to cover their expenses.
These athletes are well taken care of and get exactly what they've earned. They get a chance at a free education and an avenue to showcase their talent with a chance to turn that into a future career. Last edited by LoneWolf; 03-18-2014 at 02:08 PM.. |

When you are directly fueling a multibillion dollar industry, you deserve more than a $30k scholarship. When a player like Manziel is directly responsible for tens of millions of dollars going to the school, no, a scholarship isn't enough.

So the Manziel's of the world deserve more huh? What about the offensive linemen that block for him and allow him to make those plays? The receivers that get open and catch the balls he throws? The running back who picks up a blitzing linebacker that keeps Manziel injury free and allows him to make plays? The schools are just as much directly responsible for the players success and ultimately their popularity as the athletes are for the school making money. |

So you are suggesting that college football become professional football. If that's the case, **** it. Shut it down and eliminate college athletics altogether. I'm curious what you think an elite college football player should be paid for a season. |
