If the plan I'm suggesting about paying the players a salary and doing away with scholarships goes through, it would definitely have a negative effect on the players. They would truly become employees and could be "fired" at any moment for any reason. The players that aren't "irreplaceable" as you call them (which is a ****ing joke by the way) would really be ****ed because their worth wouldn't demand a big enough salary to cover their expenses.

These athletes are well taken care of and get exactly what they've earned. They get a chance at a free education and an avenue to showcase their talent with a chance to turn that into a future career.

How is that a change from now? They can get their scholarships taken away just as easily.

Why not? The low level players would just get enough to cover their school expenses. The high level players like Manziel, Bridgewater etc, would get considerably more.

And they should get more.

When you are directly fueling a multibillion dollar industry, you deserve more than a $30k scholarship. When a player like Manziel is directly responsible for tens of millions of dollars going to the school, no, a scholarship isn't enough.

If I'm not mistaken, currently scholarships are guaranteed for a year. If the school decided to fire you in the middle of the season, that would mean no more paychecks immediately.

So the Manziel's of the world deserve more huh? What about the offensive linemen that block for him and allow him to make those plays? The receivers that get open and catch the balls he throws? The running back who picks up a blitzing linebacker that keeps Manziel injury free and allows him to make plays?

The schools are just as much directly responsible for the players success and ultimately their popularity as the athletes are for the school making money.

A scholarship can be revoked.

They would all get different pay. Just like how Cyrus Gray makes less money than Jamaal Charles. The lower level players would make less than the high level players. That lineman would make whatever the team assesses his value to be to the team.

Scholarships are guaranteed on a year to year basis.

So you are suggesting that college football become professional football. If that's the case, **** it. Shut it down and eliminate college athletics altogether.

I'm curious what you think an elite college football player should be paid for a season.

Which would lead to the next law suit. And allow the big programs to buy players the small programs can't afford.
