"I think we're starting to come around and play the type of defense we are capable of playing."

Great, good job Gunther, it's just a shame that it took you until the 15TH FREAKIN GAME!!! If this isn't an idication as to the horrid state of this coaching staff I don't know what else can illustrate it any better.

Here's a couple of Gore-like answers from yesterdays press conference.

Q: Will Tony Richardson be your featured back next year?

A: "Well, we'll have to see when next year rolls around. He's certainly an NFL
back."

Yes, he's definitely an NFL back. It even says so on his paycheck.

Q: What are some of the things you're thinking about next year?

A: "I think we have tremendous size and a good, physical football team. I'm most
pleased with Kurt (Schottenheimer) and the defense and what they've done since
after the San Francisco game. I think we're starting to come around and play the
type of defense we're capable of playing.

I guess giving up 30 pts to a hapless New England team(the most points they scored all year) must have slipped his mind.

I know there is a league rule about the coaches and players talking to the media, but Gunther should apply for a waiver. Every time he opens his mouth, he looks even more ridiculous. I wish he could just shut up and produce a winner, but, alas, I don't think that will ever happen. But with this saving victory, we will probably be saying the same thing next year.

You guys don't like the way the D played?

New players, new coaches. Injuries? Clemons, Hicks, Williams. Bush could still be starting. Maz starting has helped this tremendously. For the first time in years, I'm not nervous about next season.

When asked about the performance of T-Rich, Gun said something like, "Yeah, he's good. We've been trying to get him the ball all year." "I've never been much of a committee guy." WHAT IN THE...*!
I don't think Gunther has been watching the same team I've been watching.
And we wonder why we're a .500 team...
