2012 Kansas City Royals Repository Thread

2012 Slogan: Our Time

A better, more accurate 2012 Slogan: It is Finally Next Year
(from Great Expectations)

An alternative slogan if you don't like that one: Someone has to win this crappy division
(from alnorth)

With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:

Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

Quote:
If you locate something of interest.. ANYTHING.. deals on apparel, best ways in/out of the stadium, giveaways, great stories from this season or from seasons gone by, rumors, trades, anything.... feel free to post it here.

Yes this....i think the only guys that flirted with the Royals HR record in the past 20 years were Gaitti and Dean Palmer if i remember right?

I honestly dont remember. Im pretty sure MLB gave it to Glass (Ironically) because he had the deepest pockets. MLB likes that obviously.

I remember there was a group with Miles Prentice whos a big baseball fan. Hes tried to buy a few MLB teams but they keep shutting him out because hes rich, but not rich enough.

I don't remember if it was the lowest, but it WAS lower than what Prentice and his group were offering.

As I recall, I think some of MLB's fears regarding Prentice's group turned out to be pretty well-founded.

My thoughts on what would be optimal (Cerner guys+George Brett) is pretty well stated, but I'm not going to hold my breath on it.

It's not Myers, but it's an improvement.

What has Falu done poorly? he's adequate defensively, can play SS, and has shown a lot at the plate during his time up... he's the perfect utility infielder... and he doesn't completely suck in all areas like Getz.

Keep Getz, keep Falu, dump Betancourt. Of course, that'll never happen.

How are there still tickets available for the HRD tonight?

I just asked for 2 best available, and was given Section 120, Row W.

Those are phenomenal seats. How is this thing not sold out?

The locals are pissed there's no Royal in it? I don't know. Should be plenty of people from out of town. If I were there and had the money I wouldn't buy tickets to watch it.

Frank White Blasting the Royals in the National Press:

http://www.kansascity.com/news/live/

Frank White blasts the Royals in national press
Jul 9, 8:55 AM
The bad-news story circulating nationally during the All-Star Game
feel-good week involves Frank White and the Royals.

A primer: The Royals' best-ever second baseman quit his job as a
community relations person after a pay cut a few years ago, Then he
was basically fired as a broadcast analyst.

The national media are paying attention, because White infamously has
said he won't step foot inside Kauffman Stadium during the All-Star
festivities.

In a column in today's USA Today, White really brings his criticism of
the Royals.

"I'm done with the Royals. I just can't do it." And this: "I called my
wife (Teresa) into the bathroom and told her, 'I can't take their crap
anymore. I have to get away. If we have to sell everything we got,
we've got to leave here, because I can't put up with these people.'

Royals general manager Dayton Moore said he basically didn't
understand why White felt the way he did, but also said everyone needs
to move in the same direction in the organization.

White didn't, it appears, and now he's on the outside looking in
during All-Star week.
