Question. Is Ryan Sims the OverTackle or the UnderTackle ? Ryan did get double teamed last year. Because he doesn't make sacks and tackles doesn't mean he's not doing his job. Maybe aquisition of Reeds who is quick will help the D out alot Thoughts ?

The 4-3 defense is probably the most commonly used defense in modern American Football and especially in the NFL. The 4-3 defense is so named because it involves 4 down linemen and 3 linebackers. There are usually also 4 defensive backs.

It is called the 2 gap technique because he is responsible for 2 offensive linemen, generally the Center and Guard. His primary job is to stop the run and take up 2 or more blockers. The second DT, called an Under Tackle, is a bit smaller and faster, similar to a 3-4 DE. He plays a 1 gap technique meaning he is responsible for 1 offensive lineman, generally the remaining Guard. His primary responsibility is to rush the passer and stop the run.

Ryan Sims is the NO tackle. The Texans guard was actually holding him off with one arm while looking at someone else, while Sims was floppin around like a fish tryin to do something.

Ryan Sims and Lional Dalton are both BEST-SUITED to be 3-technique tackles, or undertackles. They're best at 1-gap, rather than lined up directly over an OL (2-gap).

But because Junior Siavii sucks and we don't have any other big wide bodies on the roster, Dalton and Sims both faced double-teams at times in the past.

Now with the advent of the Cover 2, you're going to see alot more referrals to left tackle and right tackle and that's because the cover 2 uses 1-gap almost exclusively - no NT.

as bad as theyve played and w/ the swinging door policy at DT, i wouldnt be suprised to see them line up in something akin to the 46 front.
