****Official 2013-14 Missouri Tiger Football Repository Thread****

We have two things to look forward to this year:

1) The potential beginning of the Maty Mauk Era. Mauk represents the best chance for this program to get back to a level of respectability after horrendous QB play cost us multiple games last year.

2) The last year of the Gary Pinkel era. Pinkel's entrenched cronyism won't play in a conference this competitive, especially if he couples his abysmal gameday coaching with lackadaisical, worst-in-conference recruiting. Pinkel was the formerly adequate meal that has now turned into a four pound bowel obstruction. It's time to jam a Fleet's enema up our collective asses.

Here is the schedule. We dodge Alabama, LSU, and Arkansas in the west and the Non-con is decidedly weaker than years past.

8/31: Murray State
9/7: Toledo
9/21: @ Indiana
9/28: Arkansas State
10/5:@ Vanderbilt
10/12: @ Georgia
10/19:Florida
10/26: South Carolina
11/2:Tennessee
11/9: @ Kentucky
11/23: @ Ole Miss
11/30: aTm

Looks like 6-6. Undefeated in non-con, 2-6 in league play.

I will eventually update the OP with a list of high profile in-state recruits that decide to go elsewhere after a half-assed attempt to gain their services. The inevitable cavalcade of *** rejects, skeezers, skanks, and scalliwags we get will fill out the ranks.

Razors, cyanide capsules, and Jonestown Kool-Aid are available in the break room. Second door on the left.

Since every Mizzou thread eventually dies of AIDS, I recommend starting anti-retroviral therapy immediately. I believe Walgreens covers Express Scripts.

Premium In-State Players:

Roderick Johnson: **** OT, Florissant, MO.
Monte Harrison: **** WR, Lee's Summit, MO.
Jimmy Swain: **** LB, Lee's Summit, MO

Commitment List: From to and possibly

Spoiler!

It's a combination of all factors. The ratings are generally pretty reliable. The player's frame is another important factor. Missouri has built a great DL by taking athletes and maxing out their frames. They aren't always long-armed guys, but they usually have explosive athleticism. Finally, the offer sheet is much like a scout's grade prior to the draft. Obviously great players fall through the cracks, but it doesn't happen very often.

And again, the problem has never been the 3 stars in a vacuum, it's been that we're also dredging up guys that nobody's after; 2 star type guys and that we were losing a hell of a lot more recruiting fights than we were winning for higher ceiling guys.

I'll say it again, the shitty fans were the ones that weren't alarmed by the performance of this staff through September. There was absolutely nothing going right for the program to that point.
Offer sheets are notoriously inaccurate. Some kids claim offers from all over that they do or do not actually have. Some kids don't report the offers they do have. Some kids commit to a team and never camp/promote themselves/ or are from a tiny remote school and don't receive many offers. Some kids camp everywhere and send out videos.

The offer list/star rankings are decent points of reference, but they aren't close to the be-all, end-all.

How often is not very often? Britt, Copeland, Bonner, White, and Sam had very few offers and were two star (or less) players. LDW had no/few other offers when he committed to MU (also as a ** player, IIRC, and was bumped to ***) They do, however, represent around 27% of Mizzou's starters (not counting specialists). Perhaps they aren't "great", but they are starters on a 9-1 Mizzou team that is one the best in a while.

For every one of those there are 100 that done pan out. Look at the top recruiting class's every yr. Same teams are the ones in the top 25 consistently. It's one of the biggest things holding this regime back.

No one ever said every 2 * is garbage or that every 4* is great. But as Hamas said the ratings are generally reliable.

There is no doubt that Missouri is better than many other schools at finding diamonds in the rough. That's never even been a matter of debate. However, expecting every low-rated player to turn into those guys is incredibly wishful thinking.

The low * guys can pan out, but the rate of failure is significantly higher and your margin for error with your roster is subsequently lower.

If you don't do a good job cultivating depth at that position, you end up with guys like Matt White playing safety, and Matt White ****ing sucks.

We made out like bandits there, really, if you think we were likely to lose a game somewhere along the way anyhow, and what could have happened with a backup. Mauk gets game experience and Franklin comes back at the right time.

Mauk will get better, but Franklin is the unquestioned starter right now. I am not as big a fan of him as some are, but I don't think there is any question the team is best with him.

I'm excited to see what he will do after having two weeks to get ready.

Completely agree. I want Franklin for these last two games (and beyond)

But you can't ask for any better experience for our QBOTF.

He could've completed one more pass in the 2nd half against SC.

I'm convinced that one more first down at any point in the 4th quarter of that ballgame ices it.

That would've been a better experience for our QBOTF...

Indeed.

In the second half of the TN game, my buddy and I just decided we were going to pretend SC never happened. We started getting all excited about 9-0 and national championship aspirations.

I'm sure the fans around us were not pleased.

I got more and more depressed as that game wore on and realized what we'd yacked away the week before. I essentially had to forget it ever happened.

You took that loss about as hard as I can imagine someone taking one. I feel bad for you.

With Saban having established a fiefdom in Alabama, perhaps it doesn't really matter all that much anyway.

Getting Da'Shawn Hand at seemingly the last minute
