Right, which is what I've read as well. Swapping seconds this year and a conditional pick in 2014. IMO, that's far more palatable than two seconds straight up to San Fran.

It doesn't make it a great trade but it makes it a little easier to swallow.

200 posts back the TBG reported an email that said Smith is definitely coming here.

This deal is 100% not falling apart.

Well, they may need to do that because of his cap number of $8.5 million in 2013. The Chiefs need to re-sign Albert, Bowe, Colquitt and restructure Jackson. So all of that may require a tweak to Smith's contract.

I'm good with that, as long as they don't give him some asinine number that doesn't allow them to cut him in 2015.

Agreed. I can live with a swap of seconds. Here's my best case scenario in a Smith to Chiefs deal:

1. Swap of 2nds plus conditional pick next year.
2. Smith is NOT signed to a long-term deal (I believe he has 2 years left.)
3. Cassel is cut and Quinn is not retained.
4. We use our #1 pick on Geno Smith with the belief that he has what it takes to be a franchise QB but isn't ready to step in on day 1 like RG3, Luck, Wilson were and would like to follow the process that Rodgers went through in Green Bay. Let him sit for one year, and then next year take over.

I don't think it'll fall apart, per se, but it was mentioned that if the Niners received a better offer, they could dump the Chiefs as trade partners.

It's unlikely but one can hope...

If they think this roster, with some free agents added, is good enough to win now while still drafting Geno/Barkley at 1 and going Rodgers with them for 2 years, I'd be overjoyed. Don't think it will work like that, but I could stomach it.
