I guarantee he tried to use this as a motivational ploy with his guys and if he did it is pathetic. I don't believe that this is true yet. |

Don't know if it's true but Gun's press conference remarks were, paraphrased, "I was left with a team that's not very good."
Oooooooo.... Do you see a meltdown coming? |

This article has a couple quotes from actual players and their takes.

I sincerely hope it is true. I now feel that we made a mistake in hiring Gun. The retention of K.Schott, JRaye, and Stock are the biggest evidence of this mistake. Further evidence is his inability to prepare the team and come up with solid game plans, lets not even talk about his inability to alter a game plan.

The fact that the players have acknowledged it now makes me sick. This is not motivational, this is someone who's trying to bail out of a situation.
If it's a personal situation with Gun, then my thoughts are with him and his family. Either way, he needs to go, now. |

If anything, Gun ought to be whizzed off and threatening to clean house rather than shouldering all the blame and whining about retirement. Martha Raye is a joke, and the Stockboy and Li'l Shotty aren't much better.
Bob Dole is not convinced that the decision to keep the stooges around was entirely Gunther's, so would any shake-up with the Coordinators. |

Bad, bad move... If KC doesn't start winning, the team will turn on him or quit... leadeship starts from the top... he should have stepped up, took the blame for the loss, made no excuses and moved on.... Too bad, he's a good guy and a great defensive mind... but apparently overwhelmed as a HC....

I don't think he is going anywhere. If he does, I think we can make a list of poeple to take with him.

Didn't anyone else notice the look of complete exasperation on Gun's face Sunday?
He looked as if he knew the team was not responding to the pressure, the game plan was not working, and he had zero clue what to do about it. I've supported Gun whole-heartedly up until now, but if the bandwagon hasn't been started yet, I'm gonna get one goin! My ultimate goal is to fire the 3 stooges, but apparently this ain't gonna happen w/out Gun's head as well. So, let the sacrifice be done. Gun must go! And take those three frickin idiots with you!! ------------------ ct 'Don't think meat, just throw.'</I> |

It's not totally true. It's gun being an emotional idiot and to me he went over the edge even mentioning or eluding to being a quitter. I guarantee you this is 90% false and 10% true but the 10% true still is so disappointing.
I'm a grbac backer, I'm a peterson backer and I was a gunther backer. I totally believed in gun's philosophy even though other people didn't like it. This is not right and now I'm clearly not behind him as much as I was. His foot goes in his mouth so much cause of his emotions. Get fucking control of yourself gunther. |

If we manage a win next week, will we be treated to the 2000 version of Ditka's "we became a team today" exhortation? Seems to me that Gun is in real danger of trotting down "Ditka in N.O. Lane." Same tightly wound personality, same expectations of perfection, same inability to adjust to either shortcomings in the Chiefs or weaknesses in the opponent.

I love Gun, love his attitude, love his work ethic, love his dedication to his players!
But the coaching staff needs a serious overhaul, RIGHT FRIGGING NOW!!! Not after the season, but right now! I just don't see this happening without the HC getting axed as well(which I don't really want). I'm willing to accept this sacrifice, however, if that's the only way to achieve the goal. ------------------ ct 'Don't think meat, just throw.' [This message has been edited by coryt (edited 09-05-2000).] |

I've always been a strong Gun supporter, but this story is very disturbing. I think the pressure of being the head guy may be getting to him. If they don't get things going soon the wheels might come off and this season could get very ugly.

From what I get out of the comments I read is that Gun was disappointed in HIMSELF, and he thought he let the team down...he's frustrated because he doesn't feel the team is playing like they are capable...They still play 16 games in the NFL don't they?...let's not start cr
