****Official PC vs Console thread****

Well, with the way some threads get going in here, and not wanting to poop in other peoples threads, I figured this is a good way to pass some time.

I wouldn't be mad if a mod went through the last PC V Console posts in the next gen thread and moved them over

I'll start -

I would like to point out the above image that currently the revenue for consoles is currently higher. This is because console games, on average, are nearly twice the price of PC titles.

DISCUSS

edit: I would like to bring conversation in other threads to this thread as they appear, to avoid hijacking legit console or other media threads~

Well, maybe he's just really terrible and needs that assistance from the game itself. I know I watch tons of people that find it confusing on how to put a crosshair or scope on a body and shoot. I haven't played a FPS since cod 1 but just recently picked up Insurgency and it's pretty embarrassing how terrible people are.

I don't have RTW2 yet because it's not out for Mac but I recently picked up the Mac version of the original RTW because I was jonesing. I played it on Windows for a few years when it first came out and it plays even better on the Mac.

Even though it was made in 2004/2005, I still find it to be one of the best games ever made for any platform. I've made a lot of modifications to make it harder/deeper but it's just a great game.
I've played every Total War game to come out since the OG Rome (never played the original Shogun). I liked Rome 2 quite a bit. They reworked the happiness systems completely to where it is really easy to grasp and control. It's almost like a currency. It is an excellent game just like all the previous iterations.

I talk up the Total War series all the time around these here parts, probably a top 5 franchise across all platforms for me. Just doesn't get much better than Total War. Out of the box AI issues keep these games from being perfect in my book.

Creative Assembly went a little too simple with the Shogun 2 game, it was the polar opposite of Medieval 2, which went freaking nuts with empire management.

Rome 2 strikes an amazing balance in that regard, IMO. Stylistically, it's also almost as amazing as Shogun 2, which had the best art direction of all TW games, IMO.

Anyway, if you're a TW fan, you owe it to yourself to play Rome 2.

Waiting for Feral to port RTW2 to the Mac.

In the meantime, I've been modding the hell of RTW. Fun.

Not at all.

You simply need to put in a little more time, but the "pay" items just net you on the low end ancillary/décor things such as cockpit items/paint or, on the high end, mechs that give you a bonus to in-game credit. (Meaning you don't have to play as much to net credit, but that's it.) And most "paid for" Hero Mechs don't have any load out advantages - usually they are the worst of the bunch in terms of configurations/load outs.

There are no specific advantages in the game from purchasing items as it relates to performance. You just get stuff (mechs) sooner (they all will be released as purchasable with in-game netted credits).

Did you end up buying it?

I finally finished modding it to my liking and I'm actually getting a challenge out of the CPU without enabling the AI cheats. This game probably has my vote for best video game ever.

Got it on my PS4. If you have a good sound setup, good luck trying to play for more than 20 mins.

I sure wish I was missing out on great first/third party games. You really can't compare PC and ps4/Xbone. You need to compare PC with an indie friendly machine, the Wii U for example.

That's a far more accurate comparison.

I wanted to build myself a gaming rig this year, but i can't stomach the cost of spending that much money on myself for what's ultimately just a toy. So my project has turned into, "Best rig for the Buck".

Tell me what you guys think for the cost:

Core i5-2400 (with a generic IBM MoBO)
Radeon HD7770
320 GB HD
DVDRW Optical Drive
Thermaltake Urban T31 Mid Tower
8GB DDR3 Ram 1600
Corseair 430Watt PSU

Windows 7 64bit
22" LG L.E.D 1080P Monitor. LG E2250V

Total cost for everything above: Under $550.

What do you guys think?

Is $550 your max budget?

If I were building a best bang for the buck build for myself right now that included a monitor and OS I would build...

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: AMD FX-8320 3.5GHz 8-Core Processor ($149.99 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: MSI 970A-G46 ATX AM3+ Motherboard ($69.99 @ Microcenter)
Memory: G.Skill Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($74.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($59.98 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 660 2GB Video Card ($169.99 @ Newegg)
Case: NZXT Source 210 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case ($29.99 @ Microcenter)
Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA NEX750B BRONZE 750W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($59.99 @ NCIX US)
Optical Drive: Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer ($14.99 @ Newegg)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit) ($84.98 @ OutletPC)
Monitor: Acer G246HLAbd 60Hz 24.0" Monitor ($129.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $844.88
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)
(Generated by PCPartPicker 2014-02-13 16:24 EST-0500)

Could probably shave off $50 or so but I picked the 750w PSU specifically for the reason that I picked a 16/8x board and would add another 660 down the road.
