Fitting, this is on Deadspin today. The entire history of how the song became a sports anthem. Oddly enough, it claims the first American team to pick the idea up from soccer was Penn State.

The writer of that article calls it "haunting" like, four different times.

It's simplistic drivel, and it infects its fans with its simplistic driveliness every time the subject is brought up or sung. This article is prime evidence.

I don't have a problem with fans doing group cheers. "J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS." "That's a Kansas City Chiefs FIRST DOWN." "DE-FENSE *bum bum*" They all cheer on the team.

WTF does singing that riff from Seven Nation Army do?

It is a game. It is fun. It is a shared experience. In the NFL world it is also theirs uniquely.
