This. They have to follow "company rules", rarely think for themselves and usually don't have a clue where to put your money (Emerging markets, foreign, domestic companies, etc.).
I've said it before and I'll say it again, it's a scam. And there's no guarantee whatsoever that the money you invest wil be there in three, four or five years, let alone 20. |

You have to find someone with excellent referrals and build a relationship with them. If they're good, they realize they work for you and profits for you is how they get paid. Have you ever worked with a financial advisor or are you speaking out of your ass.

The guy I work with isn't associated with any firm. I started with $250,000 which I inherited from my grandfather. My experience has been great. I understand if others haven't been so lucky.

I work in the industry. Our advisors sell the product I work on. We tell them what they can say and how they can say it (and our advisor base has a higher financial knowledge than most). Just about every financial advisor works off of a software package that tells them what they should recommend you. They are sales people.
