Biking Question
I have a Road Bike which I really enjoy riding. I am wanting to branch out a little and take up Gravel and maybe Cyclocross. I have tried MTB, and just didn't care for it.

Any suggestions, tips etc? I am looking at the Salsa Warbird and Trek line of bikes right now.

Alright guys, need some advice on a bike. I started riding an old Trek my father-in-law had, its too small and it’s older. So I’m going to upgrade, and have no idea where to start. Really like the Trek but it’s definitely too small and probably needs tuned up.

I ride on local bike trails in Columbia, MO. Some dirt, some concrete paths, some roads, and some sidewalks. I’m a bigger guy, don’t know if that matters. I’m going to go into the local bike shop tomorrow and pick their brains a little bit. Budget is probably going to be around $500


Looking at a Trek Dual Sport 2 or 3, any thoughts?

Dual Sport 2 has an MSRP of $669 on the Trek website, however the bike shop I use always has them for under MSRP but you'd be pushing it to find it for much under $600. If that's a hard max on your budget the FX series may be something you want to look at, the frame geometry on those is likely better suited for the type of riding you're talking about. However, when it comes to dirt, you won't be able to do any hard climbing with the tires on either of those.

BTW, you'll get people coming in here and bashing Trek but I've had 3 of their bikes and loved them all. My primary rig is a 2013 CrossRip that I've logged over 4,000 miles on.

For some reason I thought the Dual Sport was at $500, so my actual budget is around $700. I doubt I will get into anything that will require real knobby tires, the hybrid tires should be more than adequate. I will probably be on bike paths or roads 90% of the time.

Never buy used. Most entry level helmets will be around $50-75. If your frame allows it, get at least one bottle cage. You will probably spend another $25 on some type of tire repair kit.

Don't cheap out and buy one at Walmart lol...your melon is worth it. I spent around $80 on mine, I believe it's a Cannondale. Just like your bike, find one that fits you comfortably.
