LNBS: Can we trade Chase Daniel?

I honestly think we will trade him this offseason.

This draft is weak at QB IMO and lots of teams have needs at quarterback, while Chase has shown the ability to lead a team to wins (I still view the 2013 finale as a win because the refs screwed up)

Mariotta has red flags for being a system guy that hasn't had to really throw into tight windows (his receivers were always wide open) and hasn't had to run a pro style set. Others have said he is a one read guy who looks to run too fast (not sure I agree with that)

Winston showed major red flags after his last game and while he is a gamer and has a lot of experience in a pro style offense, there are concerns that his immaturity will lead to a guy with early success but might not have the drive it takes to develop all of his skills and he might really embarrass your team if you draft him and constantly have to clean up after him.

Hundley? I once saw him as a guy that might move this year into the top spot, but he didn't really impress.

It's also a weak free agent class of QBs (even with Cutler possibly hitting free agency)

Andy has a history of trading quarterbacks for picks and it would be amazing if he can get us a third for Daniel while saving us nearly 4 million in cap space while he's at it.

Honestly, the more I look into this QB class, I think it's not only possible but probable that they move Chase...I think a third is possible...or maybe a conditional pick dependent on playing time and production.

Texans
Bills
Rams
Bears
Jets
Jags
Titans
Bucs

That's a lot of QB needy teams without a lot of options out there.

Good point. Only elite QBs like Elvis Grbac and Matt Cassel throw for 4000-yard seasons.

What do you think, DenverChief? Is it fair to expect a $62 million QB to have thrown for 4000 yards once in his 10 year career? Just to know what it feels like, maybe?

It's really more like 270 yards a game since Alex can't be expected to play 16 games.

anybody remember that?

the fact is you can wanna trade all you want, but if nobody wants what you got....

If he threw for 4000 yards this place would melt down because Charles would get hardly any carries.

Bullshit. Charles would account for 3000 of those yards.

If that's Perez' article, then the implication is any *one* of those guys could be signed and improve the team right away barring injuries.

Literally no one on this message board would argue against that.

Good point. That's going to be a challenge to get Charles his carries and also allow Alex to not throw for further than 10 yards at any point in the season.

Add Vaughn Martin to the list of players vying for the opportunity to be Dontari Poe’s backup.

Rand Getlin is reporting the Chiefs have signed the 330-pound defensive tackle to a one-year deal. Martin was a fourth round draft pick of the San Diego Chargers in 2009 and played three seasons for them. In 2013 he appeared in three games for the Miami Dolphins before being released mid-season. The Detroit Lions took an offseason look at him last summer before releasing him, leaving Martin without a team for the 2014 season.

The obvious appeal of Martin is his size. At 330 pounds and standing at six feet, four inches, Martin is a massive human being who in theory should be able to eat up a lot of space. Martin has three career sacks and 79 tackles, but has never been much more than a rotational player.

One would imagine Martin will pair with former Green Bay Packers second round pick Jerel Worthy and BYU alumni Hebron Fangupo to compete for the spot behind Poe. Kansas City has yet to find a suitable nose tackle to rotate with Poe to keep him fresh in the first two years of the John Dorsey era. Finding that guy could help Poe stay fresh enough to remain a consistent force against the run and the pass.

It also wouldn’t be too surprising if the Chiefs used a draft pick on an interior defensive lineman in the draft considering the need and the uncertainty surrounding Mike DeVito’s health.

Kansas City ranked 30th in the NFL in yards per carry (4.7 yards) and allowed over 2,000 yards of rushing. Some of this was due to injuries to DeVito and all-Pro inside linebacker Derrick Johnson, but the Chiefs defensive line struggled stopping the run as well. Of the three defensive linemen who played 250 snaps or more in 2014, all three of them had negative grades against the run. Poe earned the worst grade, tallying a -4.8 grade against the run. That grade comes one season after posting a +9.2 grade against the run in 2013.

Keeping Poe fresh and adding depth to the defensive line rotation is something the Chiefs need to try to piece together in tandem with improving the situation at inside linebacker. Martin could end up being one of those pieces that helps solve the run defense problem.

The key to a WR getting a TD is the QB targeting a WR in the end zone.

Keep acting like the Chiefs not having a single WR TD isn't a QB problem.

Its a coaching and a coaching philosophy problem. Classic excuses for the Reidtards.

They had 3 other QBs to turn to but never did save the last game. How many starting WRs did we go through? Bowe/Avery/Avant/Wilson/Hammond/Hemmingway/DAT. Only Wilson and DAT ever did anything worth mentioning.

But I'll make a wager with anyone willing to bet that opening day next year we have at least 3 new "Starters" on the WR Corps. By starters I mean the active roster folks. Depth 1 thru 5.
1) Because Andy Reid has a mancrush on him
2) Because they paid a ton for him in picks (and now in money)
3) Because of the first two items, the Chiefs did not have a viable guy on the roster to replace him as a starting QB. Chase Daniel is a career backup, Aaron Murray was a late-round rookie coming off an injury, and Tyler Bray was on injured reserve

The WRs and OL were also an issue and also inadequate, but that doesn't automatically mean everything is hunky-dory with Alex Smith.
