Umm, No he hasn't. K2 did last season, with 89. This season he only has 78.

Future Hall of Famer Gonzalez is playing statistical pile-on

By Kara Yorio A quick comparison is all it takes to see that Kansas City’s Tony Gonzalez is the Cadillac of NFL tight ends.

Gonzalez leads all active tight ends in receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns. But he doesn’t just come out better than the rest when it comes to those guys still playing the game every Sunday.

Before this season even started, Gonzalez had more receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns than every tight end in the Hall of Fame except Kellen Winslow Sr. That’s a list of seven that (besides Winslow) comprises Charlie Sanders, Jackie Smith, Mike Ditka, John Mackey, Ozzie Newsome and Dave Casper. It’s pretty clear that they will be making room one day in Canton for a bust of Tony Gonzalez.

This season Gonzalez passed Shannon Sharpe to take the record for most touchdown receptions by a tight end. His eight Pro Bowl appearances tie him with Sharpe for the most by a tight end. He is the only tight end, however, to make it to Hawaii eight straight seasons. He is the only player in league history at his position to have 900 or more receiving yards in six seasons. He and Todd Christensen are the only tight ends to hit 900-plus yards receiving in four consecutive seasons.

Gonzalez had a particularly prolific season in 2004. He, a tight end, led the league in receptions with 102, which was the highest season total ever by anyone at that position. He had 1,258 receiving yards that year.

And while he hasn’t matched those amazing numbers since, he hasn’t exactly slowed down toward retirement either. This is his 11th season in the league. In 2006, he had 73 catches for 900 yards. Through 12 games this season, he was set to eclipse those numbers. Since his third season in the NFL, he has only had one year with fewer than 70 catches for less than 800 yards.

And he does those other tight end things, too. He blocks with the best of them then adds on serious wide-receiver-type numbers.

The Chiefs’ star is incredibly durable and athletic. He has missed only two regular-season games in his entire career. His leaping ability — which he credits to his time as a basketball player — helps him lift his 6-foot-4-inch frame even higher to make the catch or spread himself out for a diving grab.

The only disappointment of his career is that Gonzalez hasn’t had more of a chance to show off his skills and stack up some serious stats in the postseason. He has played only three playoff games in his tenure with the Chiefs. It’s too bad, but it does nothing to diminish his accomplishments.

To know how good Gonzalez is, just take a minute to compare him to the best tight ends, past and present. Quickly, you come to this conclusion: Gonzalez is already one of the best of all time, and he’s still adding numbers every week.

I was watching an old movie I taped off the tube back in the day, and after it ended I fast forwarded to see what was remaining on the tape: '97 preseason game against the Saints.

We were getting creamed and the only real highlight of the day was a rookie TE wearing #88 making a sweet TD catch from Steve Matthews.

The announcers started talking about how good this kid was/was going to be... (at that point, we only had 2 preseason TD's--both by Gonzo)...

It was pretty cool to see...

The thing I admire most about Tony G. is that I truely believe he would trade it all for a chance to play in a Super Bowl. He wants to win so bad that I think he would do almost anything to do so. He won't quit, plays injured and gives it his all on every play. You got to love a guy that has that kind of fire in him. I feel so bad that he may never get his chance to play in the big game. And I think he knows with the current head coach, his chances have gotten slimmer. Herm's rebuilding process, I guess we are going to find out what it is this spring will take several years to happen if it happens at all. I'll bet Tony wishes he would have checked out other teams when it was contract time because I think that will be the only way he will ever get a chance to play in a Super Bowl.

Tony G's the TE I've ever had the pleasure to watch. One of the best Chief's players, for that matter.
