And Gutter, Soffet Contractors on the Planet?
So this house I'm in the process of buying needs new gutters, downs, and soffets. They are all original to the house (Built in 1914). The Gutters are attached under the tile roof. So they need to be cut off. I got 2 estimates thus far, 1 for about 6K, the other in 10K. Anyway, can you put in a vinal lining in the existing gutters? Just wondering

Sounds high, they must be a high end gutter.
Typically you can get 5" seamless gutters done for about $2.50 a foot, plus downspouts. 6" seamless for about $4 a foot.

Unless there's alot of demolition involved, those seem like high prices. A picture of your overhangs/drip edge would be helpful.

THere are plenty of planeteers who spend their time in the gutters. You shouldn't have trouble finding one of them...

I'm not sure what a Soffet is... Sounds like something gay. I'll bet DenverChief knows something about it. Isn't this place amazing?

I'd be interested to hear what the materials they spec'd are. It's certainly possible that that house could rack up a 6-10k estimate if they were using materials to closely match the existing.
Are they just covering the existing soffits with vinyl, or tearing out and replacing tongue and groove soffit? That alone could make a big difference. What are they doing for new gutters? Some of the finer details would give me a better idea if the price was in line.

The quote is for Seemless Aluminum gutters, and Aluminum soffit. They are tearing out the old soffit, and have to install a new J Channel off the house. Also when they take off the old gutters they they have to put in 2x6 to hang the new gutters from since the old gutter is attached under the tile roof. I also wanted to know if a person could buy a liner that would be placed in the existing gutters, so I would not have to replace the gutters just update them. However since I'm doing a lot of soffit work, I gues I should just do the whole thing. |

As far as lining the gutters, I doubt you'll find anything that works. I use an aluminum coated peel and stick product for minor gutter repairs called Peel & Seal. It requires cleaning the adhesion surface and priming it well. Even then I don't consider it an effective long term solution. Considering you'd have to scrub and prime the inside of all the gutters, it doesn't seem like a good fix for you. It could be used to address the leaky spots if they weren't too abundant.
