Alex Smith Traded to Chiefs

Well, it looks like the deal is done.

https://twitter.com/intent/user?scre...w_p=tweetembed

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
49ers have completed a trade with the Chiefs for Alex Smith, tho can't be official til March 12. Chiefs really made a commitment to Smith

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
Deal has been agreed upon between Chiefs and 49ers. Compensation unclear but I'm told again Chiefs have made a clear commitment to Smith.

Holy shit.

We went from Cassel 3:16 to Alex 3:16

He is NOT a top 10 QB:

Brady
Manning
Little Manning
Brees
Luck
RG3
Wilson
Kaerpernick
Newton
Rodgers
Stafford
Roethlisberger
Ryan

All better. And that's just off the top of my head. Smith is a high-end game manager, which puts him, along with Schaub, right in the middle of the pack in the NFL. Somewhere in the mid-teens to low-20s.

I WANT an elite QB who can win games in the playoffs by making plays. A QB who his team wins BECAUSE OF, not IN SPITE OF.

Game manager QBs like Smith need not apply.

Smith is fine if he's a stop-gap. He's certainly not an elite or top 10 NFL QB. If the Chiefs hitch their wagon long-term to him, it's a big mistake with limited upside.

The Chiefs can win with him. 7-11 games, possibly a few more if they manage to load up the roster to the best overall unit in the NFL like San Fran did around him.

But winning regular season games and getting bounced in the playoffs by teams that HAVE elite QBs is no longer acceptable in KC. I would gladly trade 26 wins the next two years with Smith (with no playoff push past round 2) for 6 wins and a chance to enter the playoffs in 3 years with a QB who has elite potential and upside.

Ok. So. I'm not gonna blow sunshine and rainbows here. Understandable that CP feels like they got bent over and assraped with no lube on this trade. Not here to gloat, not here to boast, and certainly not here to piss any one off. I've read through the ENTIRE thread (you folks are VICIOUS) and decided that - yep, I'll fit in here. Having said that, I bleed 49er Red and Gold, and always will. I just want to keep an eye on this thread over the coming 12-24 months. I'm sure I'll be roundly blasted (insert obligatory die of aids fire antifreeze stick inserted in orifices line) just for coming on here. That's fine, I have thick skin. Blast away.

You would have to express an opinion to get blasted. That said, run into an aids tree, drink antifreeze and implement at least one creative method of killing yourself. Then kindly noob. I think I've covered the bases.

Nice to play on a good team that doesn't ask you to throw much.
