It's a mix of blatt not playing to his game and love just not hitting his shots. Got to get love going early. Gotta use him more in the post, though it doesn't help that varejao and Thompson are pretty useless offensively down low. Add in that he's got a lot of teammates who don't share the ball much.... I also don't know if it's a pressure thing or what, but he seems to completely disappear late in games. Has had lots of open shots late in games that he flat out shanks.

It's the most annoying thing when talking to people about the NBA. I go to a game and people act like OKC is getting ****ed by the refs then see opposing fans going totally the other way on message boards etc. There is really no point. The best team will typically overcome whatever in a 7 game series. In the regular season who really gives a shit. Successful teams in the NBA are always seen by getting more calls by opposing fans. It's just a biased reflex.

Good game by the Rockets, good game to watch. If Josh Smith continues to take 21 shots, Rockets won't be there when it matters. Dwight and Josh making 6 of 6 from the line, including one banked in made me laugh also. Won't happen again all season. West is brutal, but producing great games every night.

Stars do get the benefit of the whistle more than others, though. Not just the nature of the NBA, but the nature of most sports.

Houston is even more of a defensive force with Smith/Brewer now. Far different than they were last season. Should be very interesting to watch their development.

Thoughts:

Smith played well other than a bit of chucking. Some nice passing. If D-MO is going to continue to play like shit, Smith will be a bigger need than I thought.

Brewer is a frustrating player.

Alexey Shved should never see the court again.

I want no part of Memphis. Gasol just face****s Howard and Dwight loses all confidence.

Josh Smith wont be taking 21 shots per game. It was his first game and there will be an adjustment period by both. With the additions made this week, the Rockets are deep and will be even deeper once Jones comes back. When everyone gets used to each other they have a chance to be very good on both sides of the ball. I think they will be there when it matters and I'm not sure they're finished making moves. Its a long season and anything can happen, but I like what they've been able to do thus far and like the direction they're headed.
