Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price

Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price

Branden Albert AP

The much-discussed potential trade of Branden Albert from the Chiefs to the Dolphins doesn’t appear likely at the price Albert is currently seeking.

Although the Chiefs and Dolphins can probably agree on compensation — the Dolphins sending a second-round pick to Kansas City — the hangup is that Albert wants the kind of money that the Dolphins aren’t willing to spend. Specifically, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Albert wants between $8 million and $9 million a year on a long-term deal.

In other words, Albert is looking for the same kind of contract that left tackle Jake Long got from the Rams — the very contract the Dolphins wouldn’t give Long, which is why he left Miami for St. Louis.

If the Dolphins weren’t willing to pay Long that kind of money, it’s hard to see why they’d be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for the privilege of paying Albert that kind of money. So the Dolphins may need to look elsewhere for a left tackle. And Albert may have to settle for playing this season for the Chiefs, making $9.8 million, and hitting free agency next year.

Thats fine if they go that route, but Joeckel or Fisher better be atleast a top 10 ranked OT, immediately.
They have the talent to do extremely well. They project well to this league.

This is basically what you're looking at.

Pay a lot of money to the 17th ranked LT who is injured basically every year and has never made a pro bowl

or

Take a highly ranked LT (who IMO will be better than 17th) who was never injured in college for cheap $$ and use that extra 9 or 10 million to secure the most productive young defensive player on the team.

I don't think this is a tough choice.

Yea, that's what we fans want tonight, until it's a crappy deal, where if we wait a while we might get more. Patience.

Plus, if you wanna look at it from the Dolphins point of view, a lot of their fans were saying today, just wait to see who the Chiefs actually take #1. If it's Fisher, wait and see how far Joeckel starts to fall and go after him. If they take Joeckel call them up and offer a third rounder and nothing more.

Apparently, these Phins fans want Luke.

You make sense here, but it's terrible that it had to come to this. We should be getting a potential ALL PRO at play making position with #1 overall.

BA has played in 73 of the 80 games in his 5 year career. Or 14.6 games of a possible 16 per season. Sorry, I don't have the snaps.

Are you referring to your opinion that it doesn't improve the team?

They brought the old CEO back in and he decided to abort the change and go back to the old model, which will cost just as much money while going back to a business plan that caused his ass to get fired in the first place.

That's essentially what Hunt did. He had a chance to rebuild the team from the ground up, keeping essential pieces and changing the direction and structure of the franchise only to panic halfway through and go back to the same course that led to so much failure and stagnation in the first place.
It's interesting that you reference JC Penney. I love business and finance, and I was looking at gift cards on e-bay the other day. I tried to convince one of my co-workers that you can easily tell how well a business is doing by the price margin between gift card values and sales on ebay. For instance Starbucks... cards are selling for cash at about .75 to the dollar (IMOP they over expanded and the market is saturated) JC Penney's cards are liquidating for about .75 on the dollar (JC Penney..now this is a bit different They are a terrible company with terrible marketing and have a hard time finding a niche in the market imop) Then you have Dilliard's ( a good company w/ good products and a defined niche IMOP) their cards are liquidating for about .85-.90 a dollar. My coworkers were looking at me like I'm from Mars, but I think that's a legit conclusion. Am I wrong?

Probably, yeah.

LTs are absolutely worth that high pick WHEN YOU DON'T HAVE ONE.

When you do have one, trading him to make room for a guy at the top of the draft is a huge waste of draft value.
