Sequoia Park and Yosemite

My wife and I are going to these places in a few weeks and wanted input on the not to miss sites. Also, hotels are crazy expensive, any suggestions from people in the area of where to stay for a reasonable amount or places to avoid.

As far as Yosemite, you're better off camping in the park. It takes forever to drive anywhere and there's not much for lodging.

Camping is not an option, would love to though. We are driving to quite a few places out west and don't have the room to take the equipment.

We stayed in an Airbnb place near Coarsegold last year, which we enjoyed. The drive into Yosemite was a fun winding curve-filled trip. After a day of hiking, etc., being a bit worn out, that same drive out can be grueling.

If you can pack sleeping bags, these are a good (well located) option.

I stayed at that Tenaya Lodge... not too costly, comparatively speaking. WAAAYYY less expensive than the Ahwahnee Hotel.

Beautiful location. Yosemite is my favorite spot on Earth, so far.

Make sure to bring some bug spray, if you go to Mirror Lake. It's majestic, but damn... mosquitos.

When we went to Yosemite we stayed at a lodge on the Merced River just outside of the park entrance. It was half the price of the hotel in the park and was actually right on the river and had beautiful scenery.

That would be great, but it's the Fourth of July weekend so that equals rape.

Last June we flew into Oakland, rented a car, and then drove to Modesto. I think there were several motels, hotels there. We spent the night in Modesto, got up early and drove to Yosemite National Park. Merced would also work as a place to stay. We also stayed in Fresno when we visited Sequoia National Park and Kings Canyon National Park. We also drove around in the California central valley and found several fruit and vegetable stands/back of pickups where we could buy fresh strawberries, cherries, blackberries, which we could eat while traveling around. I think you can find several lodging spots that cost between $70 to $100. I would think you need to book pretty soon though for a July 4th. Yosemite is about 2 ½ hours from Modesto and maybe 1 ¾ from Merced.

Have a good time.
