lol

I'm pretty sure you could go throw every one of Alex Smith's throws and find 5 throws just like that.

My ****ing God people. Give me a break. I loved Trent Green.

I've consistently said I see Alex Smith being somewhere between Trent Dilfer and Trent Green.

Why do I need to prove anything?

Alex Smith checks down MORE THAN MATT CASSEL. He throws deep less than ALMOST ANYONE ELSE.

It's statistically proven.

But continue to ignore it.

Overall, no.

In 2010, yes.

Alex Smith has to surpass what he did in SF here. By a large margin.

It's scary as hell to think that Cassel was better at throwing the ball down the field in 2010 than Alex Smith has ever been.

I'll agree Smith must build on what he's already done. He'll be throwing more here.

Now ask yourself why he doesn't do it more.

Because throwing it less down the field than anyone else in the league (save Ponder) isn't an attractive quality.

I think Alex hasn't been the same since his 2007 shoulder injury and surgery. Whether it is physical or mental, I don't think he has been the same.

Here are highlights from 2006, before the shoulder injury. He throws a lot flatter and faster than today. He seems to have every bit the arm strength Trent Green shows in the highlights above.

Well, you just name two of the guys that have the best running games in football. So it goes to reason doesnt it that if Alex Smith is throwing less than other qbs, obviously hes going to throw DEEP less?

You're right. His arm isn't nearly as lively as it was pre-injury. Even on short passes now he heaves the ball instead of snapping off the pass.

We've bought damaged goods.

If only he could have whipped out that deep throwing ability against the Giants in the playoffs!
