The Unpopular Thread

It ain't all Alex' fault. And it's not all Andy's fault. You don't want to hear that but it is true. We won our division with smoke and mirrors.

We had the worst running game and couldn't stop anyone from running on us. We are deficient on both lines and our running backs are below average. Had we made it past the Steelers, our train would have surely stopped in New England.

Only the top echelon of QB's could have overcome those deficiencies.

Truth is, we need help on the lines more than anything, followed by a quality running back. Spencer Ware has as much vision as Mr. Magoo. If somehow a top RB falls to us at 27, it will be tough to pass them up.

I want a QB as much as the next guy and I'm sure we'll get one SOMEWHERE in the draft, but we better address the lines too.

Actually, the OP is 100% spot on.... the lines need attention above all else.

But the Chiefs should still draft a QB in the first 2 rounds this year.

Exactly. They can fix everything else that needs fixing but until they draft and develop a franchise QB it's just another ground hog day season.

This is supposed to be why we hired Andy and Dorsey, to fix the QB position.

Get busy please.

This team has been doing the best at QB. It just sucks that when we had our opportunity to draft one there wasn't. Alex is safe and while I agree we need to draft one this isn't the year. Next year there may be a way better draft class at QB.

So then you're saying that it's Dorsey's fault?

It's either the coaching or the talent level that isn't good enough.

Which is it?

I think we have both the coaching and talent to win.

Maybe they could chop half the teams out of the NFL so there are superstars at every position

We were playing 2nd and 3rd stringers along the DL for half the year.

And like it or not, we were doing fine with Ehinger until he got injured. Fisher, Morse, and Schwartz are coming back.

"We need help at the lines" is stupid because we're already stacked at DL (the only reason why we had any success there through the injuries was because we were stacked) and our backup LG had to play the entire season. Sure, get some challengers for depth in there, but is it REALLY necessary to get all these fatties at both ends? No. Not at all.

I can't shake the sense that Reid was scared of something we weren't as aware of as we'd like to be.

And it isn't run-of-the-mill scared of losing.

It's possible that DJ's injury got him game planning terrified of catastrophic injury. Or maybe there were injuries taking the field that were a lot more debilitating than we let on.

I don't know if it can be fixed, but it needs to be addressed.

We have the talent to swagger a lot more than we did down the stretch, but between the Titans game and the playoff disaster, I have this mental image of Reid stalking the sidelines muttering to himself incessantly 'let it be over, let it be over. . . clock go to zero, . . . get us into the locker room. . . '

I got that vibe too. Kind of a 'let's do just what we have to and then not risk anything'.

I didn't watch a lot of Eagles games when he was in Philly so my observation may have no just cause. But it seems to me things went this way after the Indy playoff collapse. He didn't play to end the game when he had the big lead and it bit him in the ass. Now it seems like he coaches more scared/conservative now.

I think ware is average. At-least he is durable and I can't recall him fumbling. The Truth is there are still 5 spots that the chiefs need to upgrade. They ain't winning shit with Alex Smith though. I thought maybe smith would use his legs more in the playoff game, but alas that game was just a perfect storm of suck.

OL is fine unless Ehinger has knee AIDS and we get Howard and Bailey back. I don't want to use high picks on the lines.
