We'll have to disagree about Speaks, DJ... at least for now

Rookie + new position at the NFL level + desperately needs a physique makeover = a guy that might disappear on a stage as big as last nights

I'd bet we see a much different guy next year

As for Kpass, man who the hell knows whats going on there... he has flashed in what little time he has been given this year, but whatever the case is they must reeeally not like something about him

At this point I'd be surprised to see him back next season

I think K-Pass is a better pure pass-rusher. I don't think he's a very good overall player and never thought he would be as an OLB because he's too damn tall (pad level issues), too stiff, and can't bend the edge. But he's long so he can at least try to arm-bar guys and push them backwards to create some pressure on a rotational basis. Realistically He's a guy that needs to add weight to his lower body and be a 3-tech, IMO. He could maybe stay the way he is and be a serviceable 5. I'm not sure he's worth anything but we just needed someone to run into a tackle for a few plays and give Houston/Ford a break.

I don't like Speaks because he's SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW. And really, I'd use more Os there but I'd be belaboring the point. Put him in a footrace with Bailey and I think he'd lose. He also has no pass rush moves - just none at all. He's a motor guy with no appreciable technique, very little speed and a DT's agility. I feel like he'd lose a 3 cone drill against Bailey as well. I have no goddamn idea what Veach saw in using a 2nd on him. That's a 4th round talent, at best.

We were ultimately unwilling to sit Houston or Ford for any appreciable period of time even though they obviously needed it because Speaks was completely ineffective. And with Speaks being a waste of space out there, evidently we still think he's better than Tanoh, which is a problem in its own right.

They may well BOTH suck. And that's the issue here - that's a ton of draft capital spent there and we got NOTHING from those guys yesterday. So next season we'll be bringing in someone like Junior Gallette and when he does a better job than Speaks but not as good a job as he would've done in his prime, he'll be blamed for not being better. But if you want better than a 30 yr old player on the downside of his career at your depth positions, you've gotta stop missing on 2nd day picks.

The problem is, if you want to play Speaks and Kpass more against the Rams, they're gonna have to play the whole series. The don't substitute so you can't run guys in and out.

I'm higher on Speaks I guess than you, I think he can be a poor mans Suggs with a year or two of offseason stuff.

I've never been a Kpass fan at OLB. Put the guy inside and let him rush.

It will be interesting to see what Speaks looks like next year after an offseason body rebuild like Chris Jones just had.

260 ish pounds with more muscle and agility would do him a lot of good.

Not sure why you don’t like him. Even his slow fatass is getting pressure every so often. He had a good pressure on Goff last night.

Empty backfield center has responsibility to protect up the middle for delayed blitz that ends your QB's year. Wade is famous for having a spy as soon as he see's the center leave his responsibility he floods that empty space kills the qb or disrupts the play.

One thing about Speaks is that he can really wave at the sidelines after he recovers a fumble.

We have a FB, a really good one..

God forbid the Fatman keep a back in to help with the blitz pickup.

Well, yeah. That's the number one thing you look for in a defensive player.

Orlando Scandrick in 6th grade tryouts :

OS : "I'm tall and fast, Coach. I run like the WIND. I want to play WR."

HC : "Yeah? Run a skinny post."

***OS runs a perfect pattern, ball hits OS directly in the hands. OS drops ball onto the ground***

HC : "You don't catch like a WR. Hands like...that; I think you're a DB."

I disagree. Schwartz has to stay engaged with the defender on that play, especially with a play that has a route into the flat on his side of the field.

Did Mahomes display poor mechanics combined with less than 100% effort? Yes. But on that particular play it looks like Schwartz just let his man go. The ball took a funny bounce after being deflected, but that play was poorly executed by Mahomes and Schwartz.
