Chiefs should have drafted Flacco over Dorsey or Albert, and i dont even think Flacco is an "all world" talent.

agreed, BUT get that guy as far down in the draft as you can and still make sure to get him

would you really have wanted Flacco as the #1 pick overall? it ain't like we are one player from the SB and we can be further down and still get Geno if he is the dude

who gives a shit about mythical 'value'?

Jake Long was drafted #1 in 2008

are you saying you wouldn't draft Flacco #1 over him?

this should be a lesson for everyone, the lesson of Jake Long

anyone who thinks a LT is worth a #1 pick but a QB isn't is a ****ing moron

Exactly......also, the Dolphins waited until the 2nd round in 2008 to draft their QB and nabbed Henne. Yep, it pays to wait until later.

If the player doesn't pan out then the person that drafted that player gets hung for reaching and not coming up with a plan that works out. The person probably loses their job because of that pick as well.

Don't know about that. I would think that Cassel had a lot to do with P ioli being let go. Granted it was P ioli's BS but he stuck by Cassel and it cost him his job.

Good grief no. That's some insanely revisionist history colored with hindsight. Albert maybe. But not Dorsey. Dorsey was extremely highly touted. Many thought he'd go at 3 to the Falcons instead of Ryan, and he was in the discussion for the #1 pick. Most people, inside and outside of Kansas City, thought it was a coup that he dropped to us, that we were incredibly lucky. In no way, shape or form was there even a discussion about taking Flacco there. Flacco went exactly where he should have.

(I say this as a guy who really likes Flacco)

Anyway, that's really irrelevant to the discussion. Smith is a much better prospect than Flacco. And there's no Dorsey in this draft.

If we want to talk QB in that draft, in a perfect world we either trade up to Atlanta and take Ryan ourselves, or they take Dorsey, nobody trades up to #4, and Ryan drops to us.

I agree, i think it'll be a lot like last year, and will continue into the forseeable future, where teams are reaching for guys who arent true #1 material, everyone is really waking up to the fact that you might have to reach a little at that position these days.

Teams now know that without something resembling an ace at quarterback, you're just spinning your wheels in the current incarnation of the NFL.

That happened in 2011. If Del Rio and Gene Smith weren't trying to save their jobs, there's no way Blaine Gabbert goes at #10. Same goes for the Titans and Jake Locker. Locker has struggled with accuracy issues his entire career, yet he was a high first rounder. What's happened? He's struggled with accuracy issues in the NFL.

Jimmy Johnson called Christian Ponder the NFL's worst QB this past season. Where do you think that team would be if A.P. was replaced by a Vick Ballard? 1-15? 2-14?

Teams will inevitably reach for a few years because of the new CBA but once they realize they ARE reaching and that these guys aren't worth their draft position, we'll see things get back to "normal", i.e., pre-2010.

I dunno. I think with the new CBA and rules the way they are, teams will always reach for the QB, based on the fact that you can't win if you don't have one.

I think teams might start giving said early drafted QB less time to show one way or another tho. Instead of the basic 3 years, it might be 2.

Once coaches and GM's are routinely fired for reaching and over-drafting quarterbacks, the madness will end.
