Father catches man abusing 4-yo daughter, beats him to death

I'd probably do the same thing. Hope he doesn't get charged with anything, as he just saved taxpayers a lot of money.

(CNN) -- A Texas father caught a man sexually assaulting his 4-year-old daughter and punched him in the head repeatedly, killing him, authorities said.

The father was casually acquainted with the alleged abuser, said Lavaca County Sheriff Micah Harmon.

Neither has been publicly identified.

The girl was left inside the family's house during the social gathering, while other members of her family were tending to horses, the sheriff said.

The alleged abuser was known for his horse-grooming abilities, Harmon said.

The father returned to the house, caught the man in the act, and stopped him by striking him in the head several times, Harmon said.

The man was pronounced dead on the scene, while the daughter was taken to a local hospital in Victoria, Texas, for examinations before being released.

The incident took place Saturday.

Harmon described the girl as "OK besides the obvious mental trauma."

Asked whether they would press charges against the father, the sheriff responded, "You have a right to defend your daughter. He acted in defense of his third person. Once the investigation is completed we will submit it to the district attorney who then submits it to the grand jury, who will decide if they will indict him."

Harmon described the dad as "very remorseful," adding that he didn't know the man was going to die.

Authorities were withholding the deceased man's name while they notified next of kin. Officials did not know immediately if he has a prior criminal history.

I think one of the main reasons child molesting is on the rise is when these guys get caught and prosecuted they get to stay in protective custody; away from the rest of the prison populace. This guy won't have that opportunity.

yes, at least in some prisons. I've seen in on Lockup or one of those shows. I think that's BS, let the inmates go at them and follow their prison code, at least there is some honor there.

I'm not at all certain what the reported rate trend is, but I really do doubt that child molesting is on the rise. What would be far more likely is that over the last 20 years or so, especially, people have come to se eit as the horrible crime it is and to report it. How many people knew and covered up for the priests that were molesting kids back in the 60s, 70s and 80s? How many covered up for family members out of shame?

Separate from reported rates is media coverage of the same. Because of the new age we live in, news is really national/international in scope much moreso than it was even 30 years ago. Back then national news was whatever was on the 30 minutes of the nightly news with Cronkite, etc. Otherwise, news was predominantly LOCAL.

Now, if some pedophile issue rears its head in Seattle, then it's going to be nationwide news within days, and talked about for days, until it's resolved, and people from Michigan to Maine will be more conscious about, and a little more nervous, as a result of an issue that really isn't going on anywhere near them (at least nto that specific issue).

The combination of increased reporting of incidents, plus changes in media/perception, make people feel less safe in a US that is increasingly safer. Violent crimes are dramatically DOWN over the last 30 years or so, but people don't really feel safer because a mass murderer 2,500 miles away gets much more extensive coverage now than it did then.

I think the main reason Child Molesting is on the rise is because of the exposure to porn thanks to the Internet. Kind of like drugs, some people keep looking for more and more explicit material to get off to. For some, it's kiddie porn. Next thing ya know, just looking at it isn't good enough anymore.
