Been considering something similar, but looking at a TrailManor since they pop out as well as up.

The hydraulics run off the battery or if you have it hooked up to power from your house or an RV campsite.
It takes all of 30 seconds to raise/lower. The only thing you have to be careful about is making sure you don't have anything on the counters when you lower it. It's really not a pain at all. |

I'd think that if it were at a steep angle, it would put strain on one side of the hydraulics. Not sure. |

Yeah, those class A's he's referencing (Winnebago?) have tremendously complex systems that run those slideouts with lots of error indicators. I don't have any experience with Hi-Lo's, but I'd imagine it's a much simpler and more forgiving system, whether it's hydraulic or 12v.

I can't figure out if I would really like an RV or if I just like the concept of an RV. They seem really cool, but I'd want one that was really liveable with decent water supply, shower, toilet, etc. I'm not sure I can get that without spending house-type money.
My aunt and uncle have one of those really big fifth-wheel trailers. They generally drove it once or twice a year on a pretty long trip (week or more). I went in it once and it was amazing. It had more or less a full-size living room and they had satellite TV and everything. However, they decided a couple of years ago that between fuel costs and site rental costs, they're better off driving and staying in a hotel. So now it's parked, and probably won't move until fuel prices come down, if ever.

I just went to Cruise America to see what it costs to rent an RV. The cost to rent their two smallest units (sleep 3 and sleep 5) for a month were roughly $6,500 and $5,500.
That's insane. It's a 30 day rental. $200 a day? In 99 percent of the country you can stay in the nicest hotel for less than that, not to mention save a ton of money on gas. Maybe you can cook your own food in the RV, but I don't see it offsetting that type of cost. Geez, for that money I'd buy an RV, use it for the month, and then sell it at a loss. I'd still come out way ahead.
