The much-discussed potential trade of Branden Albert from the Chiefs to the Dolphins doesn’t appear likely at the price Albert is currently seeking.

Although the Chiefs and Dolphins can probably agree on compensation — the Dolphins sending a second-round pick to Kansas City — the hangup is that Albert wants the kind of money that the Dolphins aren’t willing to spend. Specifically, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Albert wants between $8 million and $9 million a year on a long-term deal.

In other words, Albert is looking for the same kind of contract that left tackle Jake Long got from the Rams — the very contract the Dolphins wouldn’t give Long, which is why he left Miami for St. Louis.

If the Dolphins weren’t willing to pay Long that kind of money, it’s hard to see why they’d be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for the privilege of paying Albert that kind of money. So the Dolphins may need to look elsewhere for a left tackle. And Albert may have to settle for playing this season for the Chiefs, making $9.8 million, and hitting free agency next year.

Chiefs and Dolphins have yet to agree on trade terms. Permission for Miami to contact Albert unlikely until there is agreement there

He was on pace to throw 23 TD's, his avg yards per throw was almost a full yard better than 2011, his QB rating was over 100 for the first time ever and he was the most accurate QB in the entire league.

Well, he'll get the opportunity to prove himself this year. He won't be able to hide behind RRPP in this offense. It'll be a different world for him for sure. Maybe improve on that Top 10ish PFF rating to boot

There were games where he looked like he was taking the next step (Packers, Lions, Cards).

There were also games that were Cassel-esque (Vikings, Giants, Rams).

He'd be a fine stop-gap. He just isn't a QB I'd put faith on leading a team to consistent success for a 3-6 year period.

You would factor Alex Smith's injured games where he only threw 1 pass the whole game and then another game where he was hurt the entire 2nd half just to make your argument.

Alex Smith threw 1,731 yards last year in his 8.5 games played.

That's an average of 204 passing yards a game.
