If the Chiefs go 8-8 or better 49ers get a 2nd round pick.

A third- or second-rounder from Kansas City, the remnant of the Alex Smith deal. Now it can be told: The second draft choice San Francisco will receive from the Smith deal will be K.C.'s second-rounder in 2014 if the Chiefs go 8-8 or better this season. It will be a third-rounder in 2014 if Kansas City is under .500 this season.

So: San Francisco will probably have first-, second- and four third-rounders next year. But if the Chiefs surprise, it'll more likely be a one, two twos and three threes. As we've seen, GM Trent Baalke is dangerous with extra picks in his hands. If Colin Kaepernick is very good, the Niners should be annual contenders for years with the picks laid out that way.

I guess you think it is just magic to score against a team that only gives up 45% TDs in the red zone during the season and was even more stingy during the postseason.

You know damn well that Kaepernick said there was no play in the offensive playbook for cover 0.

2nd best red zone scoring defense + no offensive play for cover 0 = you do the math sonny.
More stats to show that he didnt choke by throwing wild passes instead of just using his wheels and running it in. Good God 90 year old Horseface ran it in, got hit, flipped in the air and scored. You are in denial- even the announcers were like wtf is he thinking. He had visions of MVP and he choked. Ravens were all but on their heels- even they were surprised how bad he played.

He had open receivers... just didn't find em. He could have thrown a catchable pass to Crabtree... he threw too far outside and didn't give Crabtree a chance. He just screwed up... hey, it happens. Even other Kaeperdicksuckers stated it to be true on SF boards.

It doesn't mean Kaep can't get it right next time. I still support him.. just being honest about it.

He also leaves out, that the one play they were going to run with kaep, the dope couldnt even get the play off on time, cause jim to burn a time out we needed. he also doesnt admit that all 4 goal line plays, were checked into, by KAEP himself, or that Kaeps true major weakness, is anything short.

kaep is a stud, and much better than alex smith, but the amount of he can do no wrong, is absolutely ridiculous.

Maybe he will make everyone happy on here and get hurt so they can drag up their post and say-"see I told you he was going to suck."

So if we go from a 2 win season to 10-6 and the playoffs that would not make you happy? That would be a Huge turn around.
How do I know he is the 15th-20th best QB in 2013? Because that's what his history suggests. Even in his "Great" 2011 season and half 2012 season, Smith was in that tier if you look at things objectively (and apply some context to his shiny QB rating). Thinking he is going to be an elite or near-elite QB can only be based on hope and belief.

I certainly can say we gave up too much. That's the point of watching a sport, right? Forming your opinions and discussing them. We gave up too much for Alex Smith unless he becomes a near-elite QB and leads the Chiefs to playoff wins, or unless the defense and running game become so good, he is able to manage the team to playoff wins.

I don't have FAITH those things are going to happen, but I won't be sad if they do. I just have to see it to believe it this time.

Simply making the playoffs with no positive upward momentum (hints at being able to do more than that) would leave me pretty neutral. If the hypothetical I posed actually happened, I would actually be incredibly disappointed, unless Dorsey/Reid used it as motivation to upgrade the QB spot.

The whole reason I was excited that Alex Smith was coming here, was because of the running game. jamaal Charles had what 1500 yards last year? With the qb situation, and the right side of your line being garbage, that is pretty impressive. And the truth be told, Alex Smith when he was the qb of the 49ers last season until he got hurt, they had the number one rushing attack in all of football. Those numbers can translate because he knows how to audible to the correct play. 3rd downs, deep passes, severe weakness. But the run game, and protecting the ball in itself will translate to better defense, and probably field position. those are at least worth 3-4 wins easily. Alex Smith is going to have to do a little more carrying than he is used to, thats where players like travis kelce, and fasano are going to have to come into play, and baldwin is going to have to make some kind of contribution......

Isn't cover 0 just a fancy way of saying man-to-man coverage with everyone up front and no safeties in the backfield...? How could there not be a play for that in the redzone?

Funny that you would call someone else cult-like in his/her championing and defense of a QB.

Pot, kettle.

Look, I have a beautiful wife, a loving son, but my wife loves to gossip about her stuff at work. I come here, to talk football. people wanna bullshit, call some names, thats cool, call me an alex smith lover, all that shit, doesnt faze me. I dont want my personal life, nor lies told about me. Thats just the way I am. My true identity? Im snoop, and no one can take that from me, and I have backed alex smith since DAY ONE, and never waivered on him. Thats just the way it is. i believe that he will be successful here, but my idea of successful, is WAY different than most chiefs fans and I get that. they want their drew brees, eli, peyton, tom, aaron, i get that. Alex Smith is going to be successful because he lacks any ego, and puts the team first. Thats why i respect him. Thats why I like Kevin Durant, thats why I like Buster Posey, its just the way Im built. team first guys.
