Funny how anyone could argue KU somehow deserves to host them at AFH
Yes, because the competition is the same.

Pomeroy may be good for some things but his system is too reliant on margin of victory. This year's team wins a lot of games but not by a lot of points. Kenpom punishes them for that.

Laura Bauer at the KC Star is now reporting conspiracy theories.

FEBRUARY 24, 2017 6:50 PM
After reporting KU’s Josh Jackson vandalized her car, female player’s time on court decreased

BY LAURA BAUER
lbauer@kcstar.com
AND MARÁ ROSE WILLIAMS
mdwilliams@kcstar.com

Since a KU women’s basketball player reported to Lawrence police that her car had been vandalized by a star men’s player, her minutes per game have been nearly cut in half.

Freshman Josh Jackson was charged Friday with misdemeanor property damage related to the alleged vandalism in early December.

Jackson will not miss any games as a result of the charge. Coach Bill Self said he had already been disciplined in-house. Self did not elaborate on that discipline. Jackson — one of KU’s top scorers and an expected NBA top draft pick in June — has started all 28 KU games this season.

That hasn’t been the case for the women’s player, McKenzie Calvert. The sophomore guard, who was a top recruit before coming to KU, was the Jayhawks’ leading scorer in five of the first eight women’s games this season. She averaged 28.1 minutes per game.

Calvert didn’t play in the ninth game, which was two days after she reported the vandalism to police. In the next 18 games, she didn’t play in another three. In those 19 games, her minutes per game dropped to 15.6.

Jim Marchiony, KU associate athletic director for public affairs, did not respond to questions emailed to him Friday about the decrease in Calvert’s playing time and whether she had been suspended. On Saturday, when the questions were emailed again, he sent a short response.

"We don't talk about an individual player's playing time," he wrote.

When asked again if he could address whether Calvert was suspended, Marchiony said no.

An assistant communications director for the KU women's basketball team contacted by The Star on Saturday said KU coach Brandon Schneider would only be talking about Saturday's game against Kansas State. She referred all questions back to Marchiony.

After Saturday's game, Schneider was asked about Calvert and said: "I don't know that I would ever comment on any one individual's playing time."

Calvert, from Schertz, Texas, transferred to Kansas in 2015 after playing one season at the University of Southern California. She was ranked as the 16th-best player in the nation out of high school by ESPN’s HoopGurlz.

A phone number for Calvert has been disconnected and her father said he could not comment and referred all questions to a family attorney. Someone at that attorney’s office said he would have no comment.

A news release from the District Attorney’s office detailed some of what happened in the early morning hours of Dec. 9, outside the Yacht Club, a Lawrence bar. Calvert reportedly threw a drink on a male patron while leaving the bar. The Star has learned that the patron was Lagerald Vick, a teammate of Jackson’s.

Jackson followed Calvert to her car, according to the release, and they argued. Witnesses saw Jackson kick the driver’s door of Calvert’s car and kick a rear taillight.

The Star has learned that Calvert was in the driver’s seat while Jackson kicked her car.

Jackson, 20, issued a statement about the incident Friday and said he was sorry and that he had “offered to pay for any damage that I directly caused.”

He is scheduled to be arraigned in Douglas County District Court at 3 p.m. April 12, seven business days after the NCAA championship game.

Who knows? It could be punishment for her reporting Vick and Jackson. Or it could have something to do with her shooting 29% from the field, 23% from 3, 61% from the free throw line, and having a 35/57 assist to turnover ratio.

It's adj for strength of schedule

Sagarin has us -1 faves. Vegas tracks his lines. There is almost no diff in the two teams. Just like last year when Villanova and us were even, and the Elite 8 was a coin flip. Imagine if they had to play that at AFH

I would advocate for the first couple of rounds at home and then do the rest on a neutral court. But I know that will never happen so I'm not really gonna put much energy into arguing it.

What is that bitch's problem? I can't recall ever seeing a media member with such vendetta against a local team.

Just FYI for anyone interested.....

I'm going to be in KC next Fri-Sun. We're going to try to leave here around 12p/1p so should be in KC around 4p. Is there any interest in getting together to watch the Friday night games somewhere? We are staying close to P&L. Depending on when my daughters cheerleading competition is on Saturday, may be available for the Saturday night game as well.

I don't think Frankamp on Graham would end up very well, if Graham decides to not just stand around on the 3 pt line. Graham is really slippery and last game I watched Frankamp still has pretty slow feet. That could be offset by some well executed help defense off of Lucas. Graham can disappear sometimes, so if he does, that will...suck.

Gonzaga would be a good matchup for WSU. Izzo normally has his dudes ready to play, but they aren't as good this year. Valentine did a lot more for them last year than a lot of people recognize.

What are the chances WSU leaves the Valley? Is there any smoke there or is it just what you'd rather see?
Frankamp is never going to be physical enough to play chest to chest but he can now slow the drive to the basket and get help on the rotation D from the bigs which all of Marshalls teams are very good at in March. IF they play Wichita has to slow the penetration of Mason and Graham without fouling and always contest the three ball.

Based on earlier games Michigan State has ok but not great Guard play and as you said they're beat up. They'd still be ripe to lose to WSU because of the psychology from playing earlier. When the Shox played them earlier this year they hadn't figured out who they were yet.

I'd say the chances of WSU leaving the Valley are 60/40 that it happens. Everything I hear from people in the relative know is that no one at WSU wants to talk about it so that suggests something is in the works. Facts are some schools in the Valley don't spend or don't have the money to get a good coach, fly versus bus to some games and it's showing up now in results.' WSU and Illinois State spend much more on athletics than other lower end Valley schools. In some cases triple the top line number.

I'd like to see them move and watch better league games against Cincy,UConn, SMU,Memphis,Houston etc. it would improve recruiting as well. We'll find out sometime in the next 6 months I'm guessing.

I had forgotten WSU played MSU. Disregard my statements in that case.

I hadn't heard about the Valley thing. Makes a lot of sense with spending/size of school, etc. Thanks.
