I think its time for the Cassel doubters to eat their crow

The kid deserves some respect.

After todays game Im starting to believe in the guy as our quarterback. He just displayed a true testament of toughness out there and leadership.

To some people I understand its about him leading us to the playoffs and winning the superbowl in order for them to be satisfied...yada yada yada

Im not going to go by that mindset at all. I look at this game and I see the way he played and it tells me a lot about his character. We should be proud. We got a pretty good quarterback folks. That 2nd round pick we gave up was well worth it.

I think composure, toughness, and leadership are key attributes for a quarterback. Cassel has those qualities and I also love the fact that he plays with passion too.

However, I believe the number one attribute as a quarterback is the ability to respond under pressure. So now I don't want to jump the gun here and say he has that capability, but I will say, after coming back from an appendectomy and performing the way he did, is a great sign and a step in the direction towards performing well under pressure. So far so good Matt. Keep up the good work you sure as heck got my support.

I usually don't showcase drops. But in the first quarter, those were about as bad as you're going to get on consecutive sequences.
And you shouldn't here either.

Hell, the Copper "drop" didn't make any difference, there was a penalty on STL on the play that would have wiped it out anyway.

Those two drops aren't the difference between a crow-eating worthy performance, and you know it.

Hell, let's go the other way. How many yards did he get on the throw to Chambers that was way over his head?

Silly to play this game.

Agreed. I'm not knocking his performance overall... he did his job effectively and led us to a W.

Just saying that this is not the game that you point to and say that Cassel has finally arrived.

The illegal contact penalty would not have obviated the Copper catch because that play would have gone for significant yardage.

I agree that the would-of/should-of game is generally pointless, but Cassel played pretty damn well today.

Only able to do this in hindsight, and we're not at that point, yet.

Still: Cassel's shit games far out number his good games.

No, I think you can look back at the Denver game as the one that provided him with the opportunity to hone the skills in a game he's been working on in practice, but today's game looks like the one in which he did finally arrive.

He overcame his physical ailment and early mistakes and rallied this team to raise the level of play.

It's not silly to play this game. Those 3 drops negated over 25 yards and dropped his completion % from about a healthy 65% to a 50%. And the Copper drop was a very big deal--he turned a surefire 10-15 yard gain (and with the running room he had, potentially 20+) into a 5 yard gain. 2 of those drops were drive killers, which negated potential for the offense to move the ball downfield and score either a FG or a TD.

And come on, man. You're really going to use the Chambers pass as an example of yards Cassel didn't deserve? Every good team has several of those kinds of catches a game. Few of them will drop 3 third down passes that were as perfectly thrown as the ones Bowe, Copper, and McCluster dropped.

There's a distinct difference between a throw that wasn't the right one and one that was put exactly where it needed to be and the receiver fails to bring it in. As it stands, when you look at the overall 15-29 picture, you count 3-4 incomplete passes where Cassel did everything right.

Arrived? No. Still has to do this consistently. But I think it was arguably his best performance of the season. The pass protection was not good. The receivers killed 3-4 drives by dropping inexcusable third down passes, including 2 drive killers in the first quarter. The running game was average at best.

This was the best I've seen him use a shitty pocket. The best I've seen him take advantage of a defense even when the running game was average. The best I've seen him deal with adversity--rather than pout and throw his hands up in the air. His stats should have been better, but what is most important is how he dealt with the adversity of his entire supporting offensive cast playing below average.

When? The 400+ yard game against Denver? When the only shot at even making it a game was to throw and throw and throw... and then we still lost?

Please.

When he puts the team on his back and carries them from start to finish, then I'll crown him.

Again, I'm impressed with the improvement but let's not make it something it wasn't. I want him to become the QB we paid him to be, I think he has a chance to be that guy... but today wasn't the day he turned the corner.

I really don't understand comments like this. You present a dichotomy that really should be represented with a continuum. Cassel has improved all year. Counting "good" and "bad" games makes little sense.

Regardless of what happens to the Chargers, the Chiefs MUST win out. They need to continue to ascend as a team if they have any chance of winning once they're in the playoffs.

Now is not a good time to stumble.
