Alex Smith Traded to Chiefs

Well, it looks like the deal is done.

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
49ers have completed a trade with the Chiefs for Alex Smith, tho can't be official til March 12. Chiefs really made a commitment to Smith

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
Deal has been agreed upon between Chiefs and 49ers. Compensation unclear but I'm told again Chiefs have made a clear commitment to Smith.

Hate to say it, but if that's the case why would they trade for a high priced vet?

No ****ing way he gets pay 40. I really can't see him not going in round one. His stock is growing. He's going to be the second or third qb off the board.

You can never have good depth.

Dorsey even said fans will get behind him when it comes down to the depth at positions.

Jesus ****ing christ.

@SI_PeterKing

I do know Andy Reid loves smart players who are accurate short+intermediate. Smith is exactly that. Good match.

Wait, the Chiefs aren't getting shit for Cassel? Looking at his stats it would seem they should get a high second and a conditional 2-4 in 2014.

Matt Cassel - 58.9 completion %, 13,495 yards, 82 TD, 57 INT, 24 Fumbles, 80.4 Passer Rating

Alex Smith - 59.3 completion %, 14,280 yards, 81 TD, 63 INT, 36 Fumbles, 79.1 Passer Rating

I think you're reaching for straws. If there's any consolation, Reid/Dorsey in my opinion will undoubtedly draft a QB. They do almost every draft. But their history says that's more likely to come in the 2nd or 3rd (assuming they can somehow get a usable 2nd rounder). It would not surprise me if they were targeting Manuel or watched how far Wilson or Barkley will fall.

Dorsey said if he was to aquire a qb in free agent that 99% he would still draft a qb.

But he traded so Idk now.

Part of me hopes there's an crazy, maniacal, epic run on QBs in which Geno (Philly), Barkley(Cards), Glennon(Browns), Nassib (Bills), and Wilson (Jets) all get snagged in the first. Then some team snags Manuel and Dysert in the 2nd, completely ****ing us over at QB.

I think given our lack of QB depth, he has no choice but to draft one. I don't think Reid would want to go this year without developing one either. I would be shocked if we didn't draft one. But I think we should prepare to be underwhelmed over where he's drafted.

Those are actually some pretty damn sensible matches for the first round.
