Seemed like he was stating a fact.

Exactly!

Just saw CP on the local sports reports say the part where we are pretty much going to stand pat next year too!

Their past draft picks also contributed heavily.
Course I would say ours would too IF we were picking top 6 every year, but then I think of Ryan Sims and kind of wonder.

CP is going to trade that pick for a 2nd and 3rd

Another example of how standing pat fuckS you up for more than just 1 season. I've heard the argumant that big-time free agents rarely pan out, but neither does re-signing your own crappy players who have proven that they're total $hit for 3 or more seasons in a row.

I don't have anything to add.

I just want to say I truly despise Carl and Dick, and think that one more year of these guys is 17 and 5 years too many, respectively.

Calm down a bit guys. Carl said he'd like to give them 1 more year. That doesn't mean he'll be able to. He was talking about the guys he re-signed last year. He can't cut them all, but he can cut one or two.

Also, that doesn't indicate standing pat. The guys re-signed last year were Hicks, Woods, Wesley and Bartee. Bartee is probably the easiest to cut and will probably be so. So let's say they give Hicks, Woods and Wesley another year to live up to their contracts. They can still sign 2 LBs and a CB in free agency PLUS draft a DE and CB in the 1st 2 rounds of the draft and drastically improve the defense:

For example, if the defense looks like this next year, it would be a pretty good defense:

Hicks, Dalton, Sims, Allen
Fujita, Bell, Peterson
Warfield, Wesley, Woods, Lucas

Nickel CB - Carlos Rogers
Backup DE - Chris Canty

That's 3 new starters and 2 new players in the rotation replacing McCleon, Bartee, Barber, Mitchell and Holiday.

I think, if we were talking about a GM of another team, this would make a lot of sence.

But this is Carl we're talking about.
He's talking this way, so that when he doesn't sign any impact type FAs, he can say he told us that because of the contract extensions signed before this season, that he wouldn't be able to anything in this offseason.

He's spinning pre-offseason excuses.

Far more likely what I have bolded rather than the latter.

I took it as more of a statement saying that if they didn't get the job done in '05, then Lamar ain't gonna be extending any contracts. That may or may not be true, but that's probably how Carl intended for it to come off, as though he was saying they all better get the job done...
